Battlefield 4 Empty Battlefield 4

Post by Richy59 Wed 27 Mar 2013 - 7:25

A 17 minute gameplay trailer has been released for the upcoming game, which will be out on everything from the WiiU to the PS4. This looks like the PC version tbh, and my PC is ready. It still looks like the same game, and personally I don't think they needed to churn it out so quickly, but hey ho.

I'm sorry but this has been around for a long time.

But in all seriousness, this does look cool. Looks like an uber high spec BF3 if anything. But oh boy I can't wait for what this gaming gen will churn out towards the end of its cycle if this is what the first games look like Razz

Neat little bit where he tilts the rifle to use iron sights rather than the scope. I can't wait tbh. BF has always had a 2 year development cycle, so I don't think this is "too soon". Looks like they've got to grips with Frostbite 2 now as well, and are really pushing its capabilities.

Apparently this is on Frostbite 3...

I think maybe because they have also been churning out DLC it's made it seem a lot sooner.

Post by CQR Aero Wed 27 Mar 2013 - 14:47

I think it was a bit of a mis-step promoting the single player game first when BF has always been primarily a multiplayer game with a tacked on SP. Yes it looks pretty, but it does also look scripted, and just like every other FPS single player game ever.

Eipc scale MP is the franchises "USP" so why not promote that?!?

I heard quite a lot of games press people came out of the screening last night essentially saying "collossal waste of time".

I think the maps are much much bigger - more open world campaign - which should help create very large maps in MP. It'll be a great MP shooter as usual, but the story which they focus on won't be standout nor will it be the interest. As I said, they did very well with BF3 and I think it's a bit too soon for BF4.

Ill have a look at that then Smile

Also, there's some uncertainty surrounding the first DLC for Battlefield 4. It was rumoured to be called Drone Strike but now DICE are advertising 'China Rising' as the first DLC

Battlefield 4 China_Rising_key_art-447x618.jpg?v=1369164186

After a lot of head scratching and a quick trip to wikipedia, the plane(s) in the cover are in fact Chinese Xian H-6 Bombers. I wonder if bombers can be operated just like in 1943 or better yet piloted Very Happy

You do know having hybrid sights do have their place in a lot of combat scenarios, seeing how they can help at close range. While also allowing troops to engage targets all the way up to medium range, as seen with one such sight in real life:

*EOTech HHS-I Holographic Hybrid Sight I w/ EXPS3-4 Red Dot Sight and G33.STS Magnifier

But the only downside to having such a thing is an increased weight. However as technology improves the weight will come down, and the sights will improve of course. Anyway if anyone gets cut down by a jet in BF4, while on foot it may be me. Then again after saying this, some people now avoid me in BF4.

I'm not saying having the hybrid sight system useless. I've loved them when I used to airsoft.

I'm saying the way the guy in the video was using it was useless.

The best moments from the Battlefield 4 Multiplayer Reveal:

That looks fantastic! Not usually a fan of urban maps but they incorporated Air and Naval Warfare into it with incredible destruction. Bravo DICE! However, that skyscraper coming down at the end looks a bit scripted to me. Just like the Radio antenna on Caspian Border in BF3, It'll probably crumble with around 15 respawn tickets left.

Furthermore, DICE have announce the Second Assault DLC/Map pack. 2 DLC's announced before launch? Anyway, Battlefield 4 Second Assault is BF3 Maps; In an interview with Gametrailers, Patrick Bach said that the DLC/Map pack "Second Assault" will in fact be the most popular maps from Battlefield 3, remade with the concepts of Battlefield 4. I really hope it's the Back to Karkand maps.

Battlefield 4 Empty Re: Battlefield 4

Post by Ax4x Kane Sun 16 Jun 2013 - 0:33

Stolen off a thread from Battlelog.

Combat differences
-You can counter knife attacks now. You can not counter knife attacks from behind, however. The Devs said this could change.
-Can use side arm (pistol) while swimming, even while under water
-5 man squads now
-Suppression only woks with LMGs and sniper rifles now
-Ammo reload works different in Hardcore mode. It now works on mags instead of an ammo pool. When you reload with a partially full mag you lose the rest of the ammo in the mag. Normal mode still uses the ammo pool like BF3.
-When using a scope in aim-down-sight mode the screen around the scope goes black

Movement differences
-Can swim under water now
-Can sprint swim now
-You can peak over obstructions using aim-down-sight when next to objects that you can barely see over. This helps to prevent head glitching since it makes the player exposed.
-No lean in BF4
-Unlimited sprint right now in straight paths. If you turn you will slow down

Weapons
-Weapons will be faction specific. If you are US you will use US weapons. If you are Russian you will use Russian weapons. There will be some special cross-over weapons that both sides can use
-XM-25 grenade launcher is in game now. I believe it has airburst grenades like the assault rifle attachment in BF2142.
-There are special knives now that you can unlock
-All kits get DMRs (designated marksman rifle). These are like sniper rifles.
-All kits get carbines

Weapon Attachments
-There are variable zoom scopes now. You can change their zoom on the fly in game.
-There are now green laser in addition to red laser attachments
-Canted back up iron sights for rifles. These sights are mounted on the side of the gun. You can turn the gun sideways to use them. These iron sights can be used at the same time as a scope or ACOG. They let you engage long and short targets easily with the same load out
-You can equip flip to side magnifiers on ACOGS, holo sights, red dots, and reflex sights. This way you can have a 1X sight and a magnified sight (x2, x4, etc) in the same load out. You can flip the magnifier into position or out of position without leaving aim-down-sight mode
-Recon can now equip a range finder
-You can unlock weapon attachments for pistols now. So you can customize pistols now

Gadgets
-Motion sensors (motion balls) have made a return. Recon can equip this gadget. You throw these like grenades and they show enemies on the minimap
-More grenade choices. You can equip smoke, frag, incendiary grenades, or flash bangs.
-Soflam is now hand-held and not placed on the ground
-Small and medium size ammo packs and med packs - Medium size packs function like they do in BF3. Small packs can be attached to players. If you miss and they hit the ground, small packs still deliver health or ammo to nearby players but a lesser amount
-You have two gadget slots like BF3 but you can now equip ANY TWO gadgets. There aren't gadget categories like BF3. You can equip any gadget in any slot.
-Defibs are like those in BF3 with tweaks for balance

Unlocks
-Battlepacks: I believe you can unlock, buy, or win bronze, silver, and gold battlepacks. You can also get these through special deals like the Origin preorder of BF4 which gives you 3 gold battlepacks. Battlepacks give you custom dog tags, camo, weapons, XP items, custom knives, weapon attachments, etc. The higher the battlepack level (bronze, silver, gold) the better things you get in the pack. Battlepacks also randomly award you with other custom items depending on their level (bronze, silver, gold). A gold battlepack gives you a better opportunity to unlock cooler items in game then a bronze battlepack. This system is similar to a system in FIFA.

Field Upgrades
-Field Upgrades are now earned in game like in BF2142. You have a perk meter. As your squad accomplishes orders and caps objectives you unlock perks during a match. The better you squad does the more perks you can unlock during the match. You also get to pick your own unlocks. So each person in the squad can pick what they want for their unlock. There will be serveral unlock branches you can chooose from. You choose a branch and then you get all unlocks in that branch as you fill up the field upgrade bar. You can't move between branches. You pick one and that it is. The unlocked perks last only for a single game.
-Sprint boost, ammo boost, grenade boost, heal boost, suppression resistance, other upgrades not seen in BF3

Vehicles
-Amphibious vehicles are better protected than in BF3 so you can actually use them now.
-One particular boat shown in E3 footage is equipped with jet skis that you can use as escape pods when the boat takes a lot of damage. The jet skis allow you to get away from the boat quickly when under fire.
-Vehicle disable is much different than BF3. The way the vehicle is disable is dependent on where you attack the vehicle. I saw vehicles in the E3 footage that survived a lot of damage but where still very maneuverable (unlike BF3). I also saw jeeps and tanks auto repair themselves from very low health (~10%). You can still disable vehicles but you have to attack them in the right spots to do it. It is not as easy as in BF3. This should balance vehicles better against infantry.
-There is a gunship (AC-130) for each team now
-Ammo is now somewhat limited in vehicles now. You get an initial load out. Once you use this load out of ammo the ammo takes a while to regen.
-Jets are confirmed
-Humvee is retired and replaced by MRAP in BF4
-Vehicles are generally faster in BF4 than BF3. DICE wanted to focus on easy mobility
-Vehicles now have camo

Class changes
-Recon gets C4 now instead of support
-Support now gets XM-25 grenade launcher (air burst ammo)

New game modes
-Spectator mode: You can spectate any player or vehicle in game in 1st person or 3rd person view. You also get 5 free cams you can place anywhere on the map. The cams stay in the last place you put them. You can switch back to them at any time. You can change how fast the cams move around the map. There is an overview mode (table top view) that shows the entire map, all players, and where your free cams are at. You can click on any player and zoom to their 1st person view from this overview. You can click on any vehicle and zoom to its 1st person view also. You can pick players from the scoreboard and zoom to their 1st person view. You can disable the HUD while spectating for filming purposes. When you spectate a player or vehicle you can see their weapon attachments or vehicle unlocks. This is a very impressive feature.
-Commander mode: You can now play as commander in BF4. This is a long awaited feature that was originally in BF2 and BF2142. You can give squads orders to attack or defend objectives. You can provide support by dropping ammo, scanning for hostiles with a satellite that show up on your teamate's minimaps, you can launch a UAV over objectives to scan for hostiles, you can launch tomahawk missiles at enemies. There are other commander features. You can play commander on XB1, PS4, and PC. You can play commander on a tablet. You don't need to be in game to be commander. The commander is not one of the players in the game. So games will now have 64 players + 2 commanders (1 for each team) on XB1, PS4, and PC. Because the commander isn't physically in the game you can no longer kill the commander. When teammates capture flags on a map it unlocks commander assets like tomahawk, AC-130, UAV etc. So for the commander to do good the team has to do good. This promotes teamplay.

Maps
-Maps now have dynamic weather and time. So you can play at night in the rain, for example.
-City maps with skyscrappers. You can even bring down an entire skyscrapper on the map shown at E3.

Game mechanics
-You can make waves in water now with explosions and by dropping objects in the water like a building.
-Respawn screen is entirely different now. It looks like the commander screen or spectator screen. You can pick on a squad member, captured point, or team base to spawn in.

Platform options
-64 players now on XB1 and PS4
-24 players on PS3 and XB360
-60 FPS on XB1 and PS4 now

Can't wait for this! Alpha rumoured to be available in next few days. Gonna be awesome on PC Wink

Team play, team play and more team play.

If I want to hop on for a quick couple of rounds but nobody on my friends list is playing too, it's going to be all but impossible to play anything but free for all. At least in BF3 you can do something as an individual but it looks like they are making it harder to do that in BF4 which, in my opinion, is a shame.

Also, 2 DLCs announced before the game is out ... unless they are going to be included in some special edition of the release it's ridiculous.

Definitely not a game for the more casual player and it seems like all they want to do is bleed the hardcore players dry before the game is out. What's new there though! Laughing

With 64 people it will be easier to jump in as an individual. With the current system a squad can get together, get the vehicles, and dominate an entire game. With 64 people there will be more individuals in a game and more people to balance the maps. I've played on the PC before and it was far better individually than any BF on the console.
