Brief Forza 5 Review Empty Brief Forza 5 Review

Post by F4H Spartan Mon 25 Nov 2013 - 11:22

I know a lot of people are waiting eagerly for some views on Forza 5 so I thought I would jot my views down and then let the world ablaze with others views too.

First up Installing the game on day one is a pain in the arse. I had Killer Instinct, Kinect Rivals, Fifa 14 and FM5 all waiting together so I was a bored little bunny for some time.
For the next few hours I discovered I am horribly bad at Fifa.

So with FM5 installed and ready to go I boot up and sit through mandatory narrations and a 1 lap race in the McLaren with all assists on (mandatory). Nice enough experience I guess, kind of like having someone help you wipe your own ass. After this its car choosing time. I went for a Mazda RX8 as this is the same as my real world car I though I could compare its characteristics and behaviours. Forced into race series one without much choice I take the rx8 onto the track (but turn all assists off).

Race 1 was a eye opening experience. A lower powered sports car and it was mental through the turns, this is not a bad thing though. My car is like a puppy with dementia without tcs on so yep it seems it is actually quite accurate. After a few corners I was feathering the throttle quite well and earning "good" & "perfect" turn scores. All in all a great first race experience.

Forced to the next race in the series I manually backed out to check out my car in "the most amazing feature ever created" Forzavista. I pressed X to explode my car and to my surprise it just opened the doors. hmmmm no engine view. Ok into the driver seat I go and yep the modelling is really well done. Shame I cant open the rear suicide doors or put grubby finger marks on the windscreen though. Atleast the Boris Johnson of the car world that is Jeremy Clarkson can cheer me up with his description of the car...... oh no its the slutty female satnav voice instead. ewwwwwwwwwwwww.

I have now raced through a number of series with a few cars. RWD is mental, AWD is mental and FWD is....... surprisingly easy, maybe a bit too much. The Ariel atom made me feel violated while trying to navigate the alps, but a little tuning and it was much better. The 2011 Impreza was a bit loose on the tarmac but was really fun to drive. and the Civic type R was really easy to throw round the track, extremely forgiving and really pleasurable to drive. Just don't expect to much variety from levelling up, cash is all you get and you don't get much.

All in all the driving was a massively positive experience despite a few sound glitches on track and the debatable future that is drivatar (im not reviewing it, just wait till you experience it), the biggest annoyance is the compulsory unskippable narrations which get tedious quite quickly. Although when buying a car you don't get a manufacturers list any more, instead you get a massive list of cars, that's a bit annoying.

As for multiplayer. The lobbies seemed dead and I didn't feel to patient. So im yet to race online. Rivals is Rivals, no changes there.

What do you guys think of the game ?

My review is far from detailed, and I don't want to sway peoples views either but I hope other peoples views combined with my own can help us all figure out what was donre right and where turn 10 have screwed the pooch.

Great review mate.

I might write one in a few days when I've calmed down a bit, because right now words can't describe how disappointed I am with it.

Post by F4H Spartan Tue 26 Nov 2013 - 14:24

Ok so I managed to play about online a bit last night.

I get invited to an in game party and join a private race. race was fine. then I backed out and tried the online hoppers, but I couldn't until I left the game party chat, went to the dashboard and created a new party (out of game party) and re invited my friend to chat.

We then decided to race together, so yep in game party all over again and, yet again I cant search for games so I have to sit on the home screen waiting for a notification that the host has found a room. If I went off the home screen I wouldn't get invites.

Its not the same with all games, fifa has an in game invite system with no party requirements ect. 10,000,000 sperm and the turn 10 team were the fastest ones... Sad

While im here, is anyone having any issue with the braking setup at all ? people seem to be having difficulty with sensitivity ect. Is this just the evolution of the game to which we need to adjust or is it off ? I personally am good with the set ups but know of a few people experiencing troubles.

Thanks for reading guys.

The brakes are extremely sensitive, it doesn't seem that any adjustment in tuning resolves the problem, you just have to be more gentle with your modulation.

I got used to it after a couple of days, it still catches my out sometimes when I first start racing but I get into the groove quite quickly.

just change your deadzones for deceleration to 0 and 100, exactly same as forza 4 then

I haven't much problem with braking. But definitely do not need as much brake pressure than I needed in fm4. Highest amount I'm using so far is maybe 110-115%, where the 2007 Civic Type-R I used in the NATCC in the past was at 200%.

Got to say the handling is spot on having done track days around silvertsone in ferraris, nissans and seats the breaking, grip and weight transfer are spot on.

Its night graphics over handling its handling first Smile

Breaking gets easier just have to break lot more early and make sure apex and throtle control are applied.

No TCS in yellow bird around bathurst is scary fact !

before turning my XB1 off for the day yesterday, i tried out the Atom, maximized the handling bits out, and took it out to Spa...... couldn't get back into the throttle exiting turn 1 without spinning it out. Razz a lot of finness and a good tune is going to be needed if i am ever going to attempt it again w/o TCS

Im loving the handling of the new game. Braking needs work for me. My old braking points just don't work for some classes now.
The sheer grip afforded by the gp car is mind boggling. i couldn't get over how early you could get on the power but also that the car had more grip when you had more power/speed and became all loose when going slowly. Never noticed that in pure f1 games before. Its great to be able to compair directly within the same sim outside of a pc.
