Here's to a job well done lads! Cheers Cheers Cheers Cheers Cheers Cheers Cheers Cheers Cheers

I'm not gonna comment on the matter (obviously) but I'm very much looking forward to see what's in store for TORA in the future. Help is always welcome here folks so the more members of staff we have, the better.

On a piece of good news, I wasn't gonna announce this until later on, but when the ISCC returns to Forza 4, I shall be returning as well!  Very Happy Very Happy

nice way to shoot ya self in the foot TORA. I have no idea what when or why ,but removing talent isn't going help around here and as much as i want to think others are up to the task simply they are not. Or things would be fine around here.

Glad to see this has been dealt with swiftly and efficiently - the situation may not have come to light in the best possible way but what is done, is done and it's time to move on.

The community is far bigger and more important than any one individual and I'm sure it'll continue for many years to come. It's also good to see that recent events have triggered some Staff Team soul searching, I for one would love to see the site return to the 'good old days'.

Onwards and upwards chaps  cheers

Re: A Message to the TORA Community - 23/6/14

Post by ckBrenneke on Tue 24 Jun 2014 - 13:40

I haven't posted in a long time, but I feel I have something to say. For those that don't know me I used to be on staff since the early days, but left a few years ago as other commitments got in the way. I have little contact with the TORA staff any more, other than the odd post through social media, but I count the guys that started TORA with me as friends. The work needed to put in to running this site can often be overwhelming, I certainly found it so.

I do not know fully what happened with Warspite - indeed, he was not part of the staff when I was - but I believe it had to do with creating anonymous accounts on other forums to see what is being said about TORA and its members. Quite frankly, I fail to see a problem there. I did it myself in the past, and justifiably so.

The anonymity of the internet, immaturity and the difficulty in imposing sanctions on people, particularly given the lack of personal investment, means that a lot of people grow a big chip on their shoulder if stewards enquiries go against them or they fall out with another racer, or simply don't like the direction the staff are taking something. In the early days we experienced a number of members leaving to set up their own series through fallouts such as these. We had former members actively trying to damage TORA's reputation by masquerading as TORA members in public and private lobbies, we had people trying to steal our name and identity for themselves, and we had our members being targeted by abuse and (a word I hate) cyber-bullying.

One way to keep ahead of these things was to monitor what our rivals were doing and saying. It meant we could alert others who may be targeted by these people that there was no affiliation between us and them, and it meant we could protect our members and partners through our heightened awareness.

In one case, a rival site run by people who really didn't like TORA staff had bullied a young member of theirs into leaving. That member came to TORA, where they were welcomed. But the staff of the rival site came to us, telling us about how the new member was a griefer, how they actively tried to ruin games, and presented 'evidence' of them ruining races through screenshots.

I took it upon myself to go to the other site, where I had a false account, and look around for evidence of these accusations. I had made the false account following a previous incident (which was averted through such fore-warning) that resulted in the rivals hiding part of their forum to guests. I discovered that our rivals had invited the member back into a race with them after he had left, then rammed him and attacked him on track. They then doctored screenshots and came to us pretending to be friends in an attempt to discredit the boy with us. Low and utterly despicable, but I expected nothing less from those people.

Was I spying? Yes, absolutely. I would never apologise for that, as I was trying to (and did) protect the personal investment of time, effort and money that I and the other staff had put in to TORA. I don't know the extent of what Warspite did in these instances, but I do find this rather knee-jerk reaction by the community quite sad. I'd wager some of the mud-slingers haven't lived perfect lives. I'm sure the staff dealt with the situation in the way they thought best, however.

To stress, I have absolutely no connection with TORA or the staff any more, or the running of TORA, and I'm quite glad the stress of it isn't a part of my life now. I had a great few years doing what we did, which had their own share of crisis and megalomaniacs, but TORA endures, and that's good to see.

Respectfully disagree ck. If i wanna know what someone is saying on social media i add them. If i wanna see whats going on on other forums i join. There is no need to be secret squirrel, this isnt Soviet Russia or [Censored] Germany and we arent at war. We're an online gaming community. If someone is pathetic enough to trash the series or individuals publicly because of a dispute, thats there issue.

I dont disagree with culpability for actions against TORA or staff on other media, but the covert manner in which warspite acted is ridiculous and unneccessary

Sorry CK, but staff members using personal information provided to TORA (email address, real name, etc) in good faith to then surveil and monitor them OUTSIDE of this site is a breach of the Data Protection Act and a gross invasion of privacy.

Just a question. What measures have been put into place to ensure Warspite does not return in a different guise? It's something he's apparently quite good at! Has his IP been banned? Do we know of other alias' he goes by? The statement sent out kinda means nothing if it can't be enforced.
