CJ Wilson Cayman Cup: Painting Guide

Post by Matt on Mon 18 Apr 2016 - 12:51

The CJ Wilson Cayman Cup requires a number of specific logos to be used on every car entering the series. Below, TORA Staffer LMR DarthMario guides you through the painting process.
If you're new to racing on Forza and the idea of painting the cars up seems a little daunting, Mark (LMR DarthMario) will supply you with a pre-painted car with your race number and chosen colour upon request.

*Please note that the two replica CJ Wilson Racing liveries are reserved for CJ Wilson drivers participating in the championship.

howdy Folks. I'll help guide you through getting the livery together for the CJ Wilson Cayman Cup.

Firstly, I'd like to point out, there will be a few "Layer Groups" to grab from the Forza "Sharefront", and i tried to capture what the layer group consists of in paint mode when it flashes, and Also tried to show where the group sits on the X/Y axis on my donor car.

The first, I had titled, 'CJWCayman Left A' shown below, which consists of the majority of the sponsors.

Next, is titled, 'CJWCayman Left B' which consists of the CJWilson Star and the stripes on the side

Onto the Right Side, with 'CJWCayman Rght A' shown below, which like the left side, consists of the sponsors.

Also, here's 'CJWCayman Rght B' which again like the left side, consists of the CJWilson Star and stripes

Here, I'm illustrating a rather small "masked" layer to hide a slight imperfection due to the different "Sides" of the car on Forza (it flashed purple in the picture) - This is done on both Left and Right sides of the car

Another 'masked' layer, but this time to mask one of the logos from going past the blacked part of the lower Layer Group
(it flashed white, but it is under the striping on the Right side)

HERE, is the Rear logos, grouped into 'CJWCayman Rear A', and in the lower right, you can see the X/Y positions

and Here's the 'CJWCayman Rear B' Group which like the sides of the car, consists of the star and stripes.
**note: like on the Right side, you'll need to add a masked layer over a logo that extends past the black base from 'Rear A'**

**note: "Rear B" mainly just consists of the CJ Wilson Racing Star and a line to connect the stripes on either side.**

Onto the Roof. Here, we have more striping. but this is all it is. The file name for this, is "CJWCaymanRoofStr". The logos you see on the Roof and bonnet are separate logos.

---Not pictured is a small layer group titled "CJWCayman Nose" for the front of the car, which on my donor car sits at X=0.00 & Y=7.50
---The Logitech logo on the bonnet which i have shared, sits at X=210.00 & Y=-0.50 (the y axis is off on this car by that tiny bit)
---And the ForgeLine Wheels logo is set to a position of = X=0.00 & Y=-0.50
***the Sonic Tools logos need to be placed below the headlights (ideal place would be on the "front" of the car) and on the spoiler end-plates.***

****I'm presently having issues with the "Sharefront" for the Sonic Tools logo and the "CJWilson Cayman Rear B" Group. You can search for the Sonic Tools & the CJ Wilson Racing Star logos by searching by gamertag SCS Skreamies.****

----***This way of doing the Layer Grouping allows each driver to use their own Base Color for the Porsche and Stripe/Star colors of their choosing, but So long as the Stripes/Star is clearly visible.***----

I hope this guide has helped

**Amendment - for ease of teams wishing to have a little more space for their personal sponsors, the number box is now OPTIONAL
Numbers must however be clearly visible on the car if the box is not to be used.

Thanks**

I hope I'm wrong but is everything in the images above mandatory for this series because if so then we personally may have issues fitting our own personal team sponsors name, logo and so on into the available space. Can we just be clear on what is mandatory please and where it should be displayed on the car. Just seems like an awful lot of stuff to be mandatory for this series compared to past race series and really doesn't allow teams or privateers to run their real world sponsor logos which is an issue. Can we maybe look at this again please?

The guide indicates the logos and positioning of them as required by the partners and sponsors of the series.
It may be a little tight for some teams to match their usual branding into this but I'm sure solutions can be found.
If you need any colour variations of the star logo or that sort of thing please chat with LMR DarthMario who'll be able to assist.

We usually create all our own logos Matt so that isn't an issue, the problem is the vast amount of what now seems to be mandatory logos for this series which doesn't leave a lot if any room for personal sponsors. We're going to have lots of CJWILSON liveried Cayman's in this series all pretty much looking the same except for a few different base colours.

As said we always create our own logos for whichever series we enter into but has anyone gave consideration to those teams that don't create their own liveries and will then need to download this lot above, if a team has to share paints between its drivers then all of the above creates issues also due to Forza sharing of logos and paints created by others, some team drivers may not necessarily have the skills to set all the mandatory logos for this series so that they can have team identical cars.
Surely there's some leeway with this guys? Sorry if this sounds like a whinge, it's not nor does it mean to sound like such, but I think I'm only stating the obvious which other people here will also be conflicted about.

I know what you mean dude. Only thing is there can't be done anything about it I think. I find the rear just to much of sponsors you just can't do anything there silent

Yea mate the rear is just unworkable if you're a team or privateer with actual real world sponsorship that you have also got to have visible and clear representation on your cars for. At least with the little bit of leeway concerning the number boards that will free up some of the workable space on the side of the cars to at least put a smaller version of teams/privateers own personal sponsorship on.

For those having trouble:

Take your Cayman to the livery editor. Apply a vinyl shape, and then press the View or Menu button on the controller (can't remember which). This will bring up the search function. From there, scroll down to "Creator" and search for LMR DarthMario. All of the required vinyls should come up.

Also, you don't need to search repeatedly to get each one; once you choose to apply another vinyl shape, you can toggle the vinyl categories with the controller bumpers, and your latest search results will be one of those categories.

I have a question about the colors of the CJW Star and lines. Is it mandatory they have a blue color or can you give them another color that match your own sponsorship?
