CJ Wilson Cayman Cup Round 9: Circuit of the Americas

Post by BigBen0913 on Mon 15 Aug 2016 - 0:33

Round Nine - Circuit of the Americas Gran Prix Circuit - August 16, 2016
Welcome to Round 9 of the CJ Wilson Cayman Cup presented by Logitech G.  This week, we put on our stetson and cowboy boots and head south to Austin, TX for the Circuit of the Americas (COTA).  COTA is the newest race track that we will be visiting, being only completed in 2012.  The race track was built in hopes of to bring F1 to the USA, taking many cues from some of the world's greatest race tracks such as Silverstone, Istanbul Park, and Hockenheim.  Early in its development, the circuits entire future was put into question when high-pressure gas lines, and unstable clay soils were found on site, raising the total construction cost much higher than anticipated.  However, when the first F1 teams rolled out on to the circuit, COTA immediately captured everyone's attention.   Since then, COTA has played host to the United SportsCar Championship, the World Endurance Championship, and the Austrian Supercars Series.

Qualifying - This will be the typical "6 laps and out" qualifying.  Drivers will have 1 warm-up laps, 4 flying laps, and 1 cool down lap during which drivers will park on Turn 1 where lobby hosts will collect times.  Remember that drivers should be/appear online 15 minutes prior to qualifying start, and should keep in-lobby chat to a minimal.

Race - There will be one race that will last either 90 minutes or 50 laps, depending on which occurs first.  For COTA, that will be a total of 38 laps.  Be sure to figure out your pit windows ahead of time so that you don't catch yourself out.  The race will start in a rolling start format with grid positions determined by qualifying.  Once the race starts, drivers will use the first lap to line up in the proper order.

Track Limits

Post by BigBen0913 on Mon 15 Aug 2016 - 0:56

Obviously, having a conversation about COTA's track limits is going to take some time.  For a basic rule of fun, all drivers are reminded once more that two wheels should remain on the racing surface, as determined by the white limit lines, at all times.  Excessive track limit infractions will lead to penalties.

When in-doubt, refer to this simple image.

Here are examples of unacceptable abuses of track limits.

Also, keep this in mind while exiting pits.

I would like to apologize to you all for putting this up so late. I've had a crazy, busy week and this sort-of got put on the back burner.
