CJ Wilson Cayman Cup Round 10: Road Atlanta

Post by BigBen0913 on Wed 24 Aug 2016 - 3:17

Round Ten - Road Atlanta Full Circuit - August 30, 2016
Welcome to final round of the CJ Wilson Cayman Cup presented by Logitech G.  Our last race of the season finds us in Braselton, Georgia, where we find a legendary track called Road Atlanta.  Road Atlanta is home to the famous Petit Le Mans, and is considered by many one of the best tracks in North America.  The construction for the circuit began in 1969, getting a huge boost the following year when the Can-Am series announced that the yet-to-be-completed circuit would replace the flood-damaged Bridgehampton on their schedule.  Somehow the circuit was completed in time, and on September 13, 1970 Road Atlanta saw its first race.  Since then, the track has remained relatively unchanged, minus a redesign to Turn 10 to make it safer in 1998.  Road Atlanta has played host to many different series over its years, including the likes of Can-Am, Trans-Am, American Le Mans Series, NASCAR K&N East Series, and countless SCCA level events.

Qualifying - This will be the typical "6 laps and out" qualifying.  Drivers will have 1 warm-up laps, 4 flying laps, and 1 cool down lap during which drivers will park on Turn 1 where lobby hosts will collect times.  Remember that drivers should be/appear online 15 minutes prior to qualifying start, and should keep in-lobby chat to a minimal.

Race - There will be one race that will last either 90 minutes or 50 laps, depending on which occurs first.  For Road Atlanta, that will be a total of 50 laps.  Be sure to figure out your pit windows ahead of time so that you don't catch yourself out.  The race will start in a rolling start format with grid positions determined by qualifying.  Once the race starts, drivers will use the first lap to line up in the proper order.

Remember: To sign-in for the race, please use the sign-in form that you can find here:

Track Limits

Post by BigBen0913 on Wed 24 Aug 2016 - 3:26

For track limits, drivers are reminded that the "no more than two wheels over the while line" rule will be enforced at this track.  At Road Atlanta, that rule also includes yellow lines, and drivers should also try to keep their cars out of the grass.

There are a few corners that drivers will have to pay special attention too.  Turn 1, Turn 2, Turn 5, Turn 6, Turn 7, Turn 10A, Turn 10B, and Turn 12 will be especially paid attention too as these are some of the major cut zones.  The following are examples of things that drivers should not do.

Turn 1

Turn 2

Turn 5 Exit

Turn 6

Turn 7

Turn 10A

Turn 10B

Turn 12

Road Atlanta also has a tricky pit section.  When entering the pits, drivers should follow the road down to pit entrance and should not simply go through straight through the grass as shown below.  Any driver found to be purposefully driving through the grass into the pits will receive a penalty.

When exiting pits, drivers should follow the pit road out until the end of the white line as indicated in the image below.

What kind of "plenty" will be given for abusing the pit entrance? Will it be a Good & Plenty?

Looking forward to returning to a track I know and love. Now it's up to me using my thousands of laps there to whatever advantage i can get.

Remember kids, never write this type of stuff when you are very tired.
