FM3's Hard A.I., not so hard afterall

Post by LMR DarthMario on Sat 20 Feb 2010 - 17:31

the title says it all. i just completed the R1 Endurance race in the Event List, and i was quite dissapointed how boring it was. now, in FM2, whenever i had to run an R-class car, i had to at least drop the AI skill so i can win. Embarassed ...But not with Fm3...

here's a pic to prove it:

the lap time i ran in that shot was unceritfied, as was all 9 laps. lol. couldnt get a clean one in. the R15 i used there, was only slightly modded (pulled the restrictor off, and Enkei RPF-1 wheels), but it was a default tune

I can believe that. I don't remember racing much R class in FM2, but in FM3, the AI is embarassing. Call me slow, but I found that the AI is pretty harsh while they're in front of you, but slower when they're behind you.
I just finished the R1 Championship, and whenever I started, the AI always got in front of me. They'll pull ahead, but once I pass em, I gain like 1000m on them! Something with the AI is still weird, but I doubt T10 will do much.

well it makes sense because you lapped P2 and early 2000's LMP900 cars.

dont be silly. There's about a 40 second laptime difference between his time and a R1995 908

the AI in this game is about as horrid as the new fictional tracks

the AI follow the driving line like its the LAW! i made a minor braking mistake at turn1, lap 1, (no damage, but went way too wide) and fell to 4th, behind Rossi, Muller, and the Porsche P2 car. it took me til the the exit of the corner that dumps onto the back straight (that leads to the carrousel) to get past Rossi, cuz they brake entirely too soon than what these cars are capable of. i had to constantly checkup on them to keep from running into them

Well, in a game that has a very high quality of graphics, while at the same time trying to run a (semi) realistic physics engine (just think of the amount of calculations the game has to do every second to mimic suspension travel, drag, heat/grip and all that jazz) then you would expect the AI to be not-so-dynamic. Mabey on the next xbox!

i believe Turn10 dumbed down the AI skill to try and attract this "new player base" they were talking about at E3 last year. in FM2, i couldnt do squat with the Hard AI in the R classes. id have to switch it to Medium, and be lucky to get 1st, or switch it to Easy, and just leave the AI behind. it feels like im racing the EASY AI from FM2, cuz it takes little to no effort. while i was starting the 'season' mode, starting last every time, i would jump to 1st in seconds.........

True. I've also found that if you enter their braking line, they act like your not even there. At Motegi, the turn right before the tunnel at the beginning, I slowed down after the last marker, and had a 908 plow into the back of my car. Weird, because they brake waay earlier than that at the other corners. Its like they love to crash your car, and with R1, it ain't hard.

that lap time put me #215 on the scoreboard

..and yes. i ran it again, but with the restrictor plate back on the car, and the stock wheels. again, no tune. Razz
