I really hope they keep Colin McRae's name in the tile like it should be.
Three days ago, Codemasters released a first video trailer of their upcoming Colin McRae DiRT 3 title that is scheduled to be released in 2011 for the PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
Codemasters’ own Helios confirmed right here on VirtualR that the third part of the DiRT franchise will be offering much more traditional-style rallying than its predecessors.
This is backed up by chief game designer Matt Horsman who recently revealed some details on DiRT 3 to EDGE Magazine. DiRT 3 will feature a mix of modern and classical rally cars that can be used in an all-new career mode. Players start out as privateer driver in 90s rally machinery and have to work their way up the ladder.
The cars can be raced on over 100 stages, ranging from Norway to Africa, including the site of the most famous rally of them all – Monte Carlo. DiRT 3 will be featuring a dynamic weather system including snow & ice, players will be able to upload their most spectacular replays straight to Youtube.
Using the trusted EGO-engine, Colin McRae DiRT 3 will be released in 2011 for the PC and consoles, following the successful second edition of the franchise that sold over 1.7 million copies.
I really hope they keep Colin McRae's name in the tile like it should be.
Re: Dirt 3
for britain yes, for USA it never was in the title of the Dirt games (i work on a military base so i see the US versions)
Re: Dirt 3
On the box it still says dirt 2 or whatever, but its common knowledge its colin mcrae dirt 3. Personally, in America, I think they market it as Ken Block: Dirt 3. All this talk makes me wanna play some DiRT whoes up for it
Re: Dirt 3
it surppised me how many adverts had Block in them during the X-games, (especially considering how badly he did!)
Re: Dirt 3
Its part him, and part the fiesta, I follow block on twitter and hes always talking about how the fiestas breaking. Usually in the suspension, maybe he could get some help from tanner
Re: Dirt 3
I've been playin dirt 2 for the last few days solid. love that game. i though the usa boxes had colin mcrae in the frotn cos even kenny boy says his name at various points though the game
Re: Dirt 3
Dirt 3 sounds like the perfect rally game Can't wait to do the Monte! Can't wait to do the Safari! Can't wait to play it!

Re: Dirt 3
Since I can't really contain my excitement all that well... I think Dirt 3 will make people appreciate traditional rallying alot more. I think that while the whole X Games thing has done alot of good for rallying (and Rallycross, i am very pleased with Tanner Fousts success in the ERC), it has also done damage to the traditions and the reason we all fall in love with rallying.
I really hope Codemasters do a great job with this, and I know they will. The sheer prospect of doing the Monte, the Safari and a proper northern european powder rally with visuals as good as F1 2010 in some of my favourite competition cars of all time excites me to a very, very high level. Its going to be super fun, super immersive and super even more fun. Nothing beats blasting through a realistic, narrow stage on the absolute knife edge trying to get the quickest time possible, hitting a rock face, pitching your car into a massive somersault into a tree, bouncing off, wooden posts flying everywhere etc... pure adrenaline at times

Re: Dirt 3
hahah I played dirt 2 last night, I forgot how good it was Despite being a really gllamourized view of rallying, it still had good physics and great tracks
Re: Dirt 3
Hopefully more people will buy the game this time around and we can have the TRC in a real rally game. We ned to get out of this Forza 3 bubble we are in.
Re: Dirt 3
agreed. the TRC/HRC would be epic if it was possible in 'Dirt' if there was a livery editor. same with GT5. if there is a livery editor in either of them, i'd pick em both up, along with a PS3-headset

Re: Dirt 3
Whilst the livery editor is great for making up teams it doesn't really bother me tbh if we can have better racing on different games
Re: Dirt 3
We did race pro with no livery editor and that worked out well. Other than the fact that it was race pro
Re: Dirt 3
well, i guess all im hoping for is just the ability to put numbers on the cars so we know who's who on the track

Race Pro is a fine game, TORA is just a Forza fanboy base

Re: Dirt 3
The article reveals some interesting details, confirming that the weather system seen in F1 2010 will be making the transition to DiRT, allowing rallying in snow, rain and during the night-time. As one would expect from Codemasters, the weather system will be very detailed, including deformable snowbanks and other features.
Codemasters is trying hard to appeal to the more traditional rally audience this time, offering over 100 stages and 50 cars in DiRT 3, ranging from Group B monsters to modern-age S2000 rally machinery. Even though a full list of content is yet to be revealed, the thought of driving an insanely powerful Audi S1 Group B car on icy and snowy Monte Carlo roads in complete darkness is enough to get excited about the upcoming title.
Of course, no content is able to make up for mediocre physics but it sounds like DiRT 3 will improve in this area as well as mentioned in the article:
“There was an immediate feeling of greater weight to the car, making its behaviour more predictable when pitching it into slides, but they remain just as snappy and responsive as you’d expect highly tuned (and highly expensive) rally machines to be.”
Using the trusted EGO-engine, DiRT 3 will be released in 2011 for the PC and consoles, following the successful second edition of the franchise that sold over 1.7 million copies. The title will feature over 50 cars that can be raced on over 100 stages that make use of a dynamic weather system including snow and ice
Awesome!
Re: Dirt 3
Finally, they seem to be heading back towards what CMR was all about. Proper rallying.
