At least rFactor is free not subscription. I'd really not go the iRacing route IMO

iRacing:
+ve's - really well made cars, laser scanned tracks, great orginised leagues
-ve's - beasting computer would be needed, a good wheel is needed, you need to buy all the cars and tracks, the subscription is way too high.

I've always considered going to IRacing, 3Wide and many others race on it these days but I can't afford to spend stupid amounts of money on gaming.

Well I'm just going to put some of 3Wide's setup here, just so you can see how much it really costs.

G27 $300
Playseat $350
Membership fees $75+36= $111
Gamecontent around $330

And thats without even buying your comp, seat, wheel, shifter, headset, tv etc...

Seriously unless you have money to play with then don't bother.

As I just got my G27 the day I tried the rFactor demo that came with it. I have to say I wasn't impressed, but I think it was more the demo than anything. I don't hav the mount for my shifter for my playseat yet so need to use the paddles but I couldnt customise the options in the demo. I tried GTR Evo using the shifter an I love the wheel, I so wish MS would let logitech make it work on the 360.

Google ''NetKar Pro''. Its a sim that is on par with iRacing, and is used as a base by Ferrari for their simulator. More tracks and cars are being added all the time.

LFS' mega realistic tyre model in action on a BMW Sauber F1 car:

Sim Touring Car Cup coverage from a few years back on LFS

NetKar Pro has an awsome tyre model too, but both LFS and NKP have a lot of fictuous content. LFS does have FBMW and the Sauber and is going to be adding Rockingham to its S3 lisence which is coming out soon.

And don't forget rFactor 2!

Played some iRacing at PAX today and I have to say I am seriously tempted especially at $7 a month. The physics are incredible and the fact that we at PAX were racing others all over the world and it was just awesome.

I have a number of 1 month trails that I can give you guys if anyone is interested.

Re: iRacing

Well, I finally got round to getting iRacing after we discussing it throughout the TORA 24. I have always been tempted sinc eplaying it earlier in the year, and when you buy 1 month you get 2 free, so I thought I would give it a go to try it.

I'm so glad I did. It's incredible. I can clearly see the difference between PC sims and console sims now. It took me hours to learn how to drive the little Mazda and Legend cars correctly and I have been doing a number of Oval races today. I bought this game mainly for the Oval racing so I went and bought the current season and the Impala NASCAR. Totally worth it.

I know a few of the guys who are new to the forum race over there, so if you guys are ever online just give me a shout and we can do some practice sessions together or something.

I cancelled my subscription awhile ago, wasn't using it enough to justify it. I also bought the Indycars and NASCAR Trucks and as soon as I did that they stopped using them in competitions I could enter. I wasn't very happy with that. Kinda fancy trying it out again though as the new graphics pack is out but I'll wait until they are doing their 3 months for the price of 1 offer again.
