Operation Flashpoint: Red River

Post by CQR Aero on Thu 3 Mar 2011 - 13:53

Don't you just love games conventions? It's GDC (Games Developers' Conference) at the moment, and there's a ton of videos/news out!

Here's 2 vids from the next flashpoint. Easily a step or three beyond CoD or BF if you've not played any of the series, in terms of going for realism. i.e. one-shot kills, proper ballistic arcs and windage, severe distances to travel with sometimes no action at all (actually makes it quite tense), then all hell breaking loose.

Check out the vids below. The first is pretty cool, but I dare you not to like the explosion in the 2nd vid - very impressive!!

Yeah, I remember seeing Dragon Rising for a few quid in game. Should have picked it up!

Red River would perhaps suggest that it is based on a fictional conflict with China? I wouldn't want to be up against the People's Liberation Army...

If you watch the developer diary you'll see it's set in Tajikistan (neighbours Afghanistan on its southern border), versus the "untrained" insurgents, then the PLA rock up and kick your ass. Cool

Got the previous version for about £4 off ebay. Wow it's rock hard! I loved the original Flashpoint on the PC years ago, this one is just brutally hard.

When we're online at the same time and both available, I'm definitely up for some co-op with you. I got a fiar way through the co-op campaign with the WWR guys when Dragon Rising was released, but I don't think we finished it. That reminds me, I really must finish TF: WFC with Gary. Any chance you'll be picking that up Scot?

I think this game, would be too realistic for quite a few TORA members. The same could be said about the original Operation Flashpoint on the PC, along with ARMA 1 and 2.

So if you are expecting a un-realistic game, where COD or Halo camping would work in real life. Thn you will be in for some pain. Other then that, I am getting this version for the Xbox 360.

Seeing how I got the previous game on the PS3.

I remember getting shot in a mission on the original Flashpoint on the PC. Wounded arm and legs, couldn't walk, so had to crawl. AI team were wiped out, but the mission was complete, and all I had to do was get back to base. I crawled about 4 miles in the game, all the time trying to stick to tree cover and avoid enemy patrols, it took forever! Fond, fond memories of that game. Smile
