New Pc Rig Help

Post by CQR Rogue on Wed 8 Jun 2011 - 8:34

Hey all,

I am going to treat myself 1 last time before my baby is born to a new PC.

However as I have not bought 1 in a while, I do need some help.

I am looking to get a decent base unit, I have top notch montior already but I am looking for a PC to run BF3 at a high spec?

Has any 1 got any companys they have used before for custom PC?

Also recomened specs as well would be welcomed Smile

Its cheaper to build a desktop yourself. Its not that hard really, and the 3 I've built have probably saved about $3200 all together.

Only one was mine, the others were for my brother and one of my friends. Each one was about $1k less than an equivalent prebuilt computer would have been though.

If you have the budget you suggested, I'd definitely go for this, no question:

Not only is it a nice beefy rig, I've used Novatech for many years and their aftersales support is second to none.

I'll set you up Duncan, I used Chillblast and sent them a list of exactly what I wanted and they optimized the set up so everythign would work well with each other. It was also cheaper than every other palce I tried. I just got my new one delivered. Newest Sandy Bridge i7, GTX 590, liquid cooling, silly amounts of RAM. The works.

If you give me a budget I can get a price for you.

Here's my specs, all hand picked.

Intel Core i7 2600K Processor overclocked up to 4.5GHz
Corsair H70 CPU water cooler
Asus P8P67 DELUXE Motherboard with USB 3.0 and SLI
GeForce GTX 590 3GB Graphics Card
Cooler Master HAF X Case
8GB PC3-12800 1600 MHz DDR3 Corsair Vengeance (2 x 4GB)
LG Blu Ray ReWriter
80GB Corsair Force F80 SSD
2B Hitachi Deskstar 7200rpm HDD
CORSAIR CMPSU-1200AXUK
Onboard High Definition Audio
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit OEM

I am robbing bits from my old pc as well including my soundcard, media reader and a DVD drive.

If I am being honest, the GTX 590 was me just wanting the best/newest stuff. I think dual GTX 580s would perform better for a similar price to one 590 card. My plan is to SLI the 590 in 6 months or so when the price of the is cheaper.

the 590 comes into its own when you start using multiple screens or going 3D on your ass. Plus SLI'ing upto another gives you the best frame rate possible for all current games in HD on large displays without dropping etc.

You wouldn't notice any difference tbh between the 580 & 590 in your rig currently. Nice set up though dude.

You know you can run 3 720 DLP projector off the one 590 even in 3d with your setup!!! Check these out:

Yeah I know, I am considering buying another 2 22" screens to go with my current one for having the expanded desktops and vision in games, but I am not going for 3D. I have a 3D TV and use it on my PS3 and its not particularly impressive I have to say. I used the nVidia 3D vision at PAX and whilst it was ok, it doesn't add anything to game. In my opinion.

I'd love a 3 screen set up as I driver in cockpit, having the extra field of view and rear view plus wing mirrors would sooo help!!

The 590 will help out a lot when I bump up the res for 1080p for playing my TV, but my monitors res is max 1680x1050 or something, so the 590 will probably be a bit wasted. Although the more power, the more fps in any case.
