...I dont blame them.

Reflections have done it again!

Failing to build on the success of a game they made so well (Despite every road in the first edition of Driver a straight road with right angles). A game simply called..............."Driver"

Driver 2... Was as if removed from our memories, curved roads and the ability to get out of the car! (in some cases the best way to evade the cops was to simply get out of the car you were driving :-S)

Driver 3, or should I say Driv3r (Pronounced Drivthree-er) was a completely different game, gone was the late 70s, typical car chase movie era ethic, and hello to a grand theft auto style game, but from the side of the long arm of the law, I could never play this one properly, I'm not good with guns.

Driver: Parallarallallel Lines (Bet you forgot about this one aswell)

Did anyone bother?

I remember buying this game , but then 2 or 3 levels in completely lost interest.

And the apathy has now spread to the next installment of tedium.

Driver : San Francisco (town..... city of golden gleaming spires, people live here, golden gate bridge! Ahhhh the romans came here........... and built buildings with things DUCKS, COWS!....Cows that look wierd.......and...Convicts)

For someone that has watched Life on Mars, the basis of the story is a blatant copy. Minus the time travel.
For someone that has watched Quantum Leap, the basis of the story is a blatant copy. Minus the time travel.
For someone that has played Assasins Creed, the basis of the story is a blatant copy. Minus the time travel.
For soemone that has played Farenheit, the crows.....yada yada yada...

That may sound too negative, ok then, lets think of it as a clever mash-up.

Graphically, its....acceptable for a modern city streets and its suburbs, along the lines of grand theft auto, the need for speed illegal racing series, however its even brilliant...er in the non-gameplay graphics that you'll notice immediately like a late 70s early 80s sitcom scene change. The Villain, Jerecho's face detail is unbelievable.

Gameplay also falls into levels of "whats the point" sometimes, or even so far as send you into a controller throwing mini-fit, they've ditched the walking, the gun toting, and all the things action-film that were visible in Driv3r, and replaced it with a method of "Car Jumping" that is integral to the plot of "Tanner", the man who has been the central charachter in all of the "Numbered" sequels and the Original. It is not simply a means of changing cars, it is a "power" that can be used to your advantage if you are in the right place at the right time.

I'm still at the start of the game, I believe, there are certain links in the criminal chain that I've discovered, and I'm not suprised that when this game ends the characther of "Tanner" gets thrown into something more absurd than being able to possess members of the public who are only driving cars, No bikes (suprisingly), the pedestrians jump out of the way when your near to the pavement or blasting out of a side-alley starsky-and-hutch style, however when in control of a vehicle with a siren and a flashing light, the traffic doesnt move out of the way... or are things different in America?

Adrian, this has to be one of the best game reviews I have seen in a long time.

I never thought about the parallels to Life on Mars, even though i'm actually watching Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes from beginning to end at the moment.

Time travel to the 70's might actually have redeemed this title!

I think they have done a poor job at a ''reboot'' for this. When I played Driver games in the past, the handling of the cars did not feel over exaggerated, the cars actually felt like they were sliding in a realistic way (the physics in Driv-three-er ewre actually not bad at all), and the environments felt very realistic; you could drive pretty much anywhere you wanted to.

This new iteration has superpowers, its turned Jerecho into a Bond villian, and driving around on the streets feels very constrained and walled up. Driv3r's Miami, Nice and Istanbul were fantastic places to hoon around in with Take-a-ride mode. And then you could make a movie of it with the film director mode!

Thank the lord that I bought the original for my iPod!

You know, I had zero expectations for this game. After watching the videos I thought "no chance, this looks terrible"

I now have it and surprisingly I am really enjoying it. It's fun, it's different and the car chases really do feel like over the top classic chase scenes.

I was all set up to hate the game, but I think it's pretty good. It's enjoyable for what it is, a pure arcade car chase game.
