I can't believe it hasn't already. One of the fastest corners on the track, and its also one of the narrowest.
Just got the confirmation on SPEED about 5 minutes ago. I'm honestly at a loss--and that was a GTE car.

I believe he penetrated the armco and came into contact with a tree. Absolutely devastating.

I know we don't know the racer personally but maybe the #95 car would be allowed to run a black number board next week?

How a corner of such speed is protected by one of the thinnest guardrail systems in use--only to be slightly protecting a tree? 1: Its amazing it hasn't happened yet. 2: It shouldn't have had to happen before someone said "Oh, this may be an issue now!"

Been following Allan in the British GT for the past few years, and incredibly quick GT driver! Still in shock that its happened, lets just hope lessons however small they may be are learned from this so we can avoid tradgedys like this again. RIP Allan.

Agree Dunc.
I will be speaking with AMR post race to see whether there is anything the VAMR teams can do in tribute for Allan. Will keep you all posted.

For lack of a better term, I'm "excited" to see what you guys do. Maybe talk to whoever owns #75 and run it for the weekend.

I am having a hard time focusing on the race now, and am pretty sure I am not alone in this.
Re: 2013 24 Heures du Mans 90th edition
This is crazy. American racing fans were heartbroken a couple of weeks ago with Jason Leffler.
No one should have to die in the greatest race in the world. Time to do something about the trees and the armco.
First fatal accident in the 24 hrs since 1997.

Are the GT cars less safe than the P1 cars? After all, we almost lost two Audi drivers two years ago.
Correction, his wiki page says he is the first to pass in the actual race since 1986.

You can't really judge how safe any car is. Allan's car penetrated the armco and made contact with a tree drivers side. That will cause serious problems with any car.AAR ABEnstein wrote:Are the GT cars less safe than the P1 cars? After all, we almost lost two Audi drivers two years ago.
We were never even close to losing Allan McNish or Rocky in 2011, so I have no idea what you're on about there I'm afraid.

Re: 2013 24 Heures du Mans 90th edition
More/less safe, I am unsure to be quite honest. But I do know that they are very different, in that LMP1/2 cars are cabon fiber monocoque chassis ala F1, and the GT cars have steel roll cage structures similar to NASCAR.AAR ABEnstein wrote:Are the GT cars less safe than the P1 cars? And I believe the driver placement could tip things into P1 favor, as the driver is more central to the car where GT cars are to the side like in a production car.

one of the aerial footage Speed just aired (not sure if they are using the same footage from elsewhere), just saw a Silverstone shaped pond

What I meant by almost lost was that the accidents were very severe; accidents that could have easily been fatal had all the wrong pieces come together. They were lucky to have not been injured. Davidson's accident is another example.

Well, I've started something already in tribute to AllanMatt wrote:Agree Dunc.

I'm still in shock to be honest as I'm sure everyone here in TORA will feel as well. I do hope AMR win the race now (even more so than ever) in honour of Allan Simonsen. But for sure, the race feels a lot hollow now.

Can you please put that decal on your storefront? I would love to put it on my car. Or just gift it to me.ATR DAN wrote:Well, I've started something already in tribute to AllanMatt wrote:Agree Dunc.
