TASCAR Review: DarthMario claims 3rd stock car title! Fm4_fo24

The third TORA TASCAR season came to a close last night, with LMR DarthMario claiming his 3rd stock car title after finishing 6th in the 'Nippon 150' at the Motegi Super-Speedway.

He finished just ahead of his closest title rival jgroves1996 to take the title by 11 points, the closest finish in TORA's stock car history. jgroves1996 managed to secure 2nd in the championship and the 'Rookie of the year' title. VAMR Wilson took 3rd place in the driver's championship after being equal on points with XPR ChicaiN, with Wilson taking the place on count-back.

It's hard to think that the season started all the way back at the end of June with the qualifying day for the season opening 'Sunset 250' from Sunset Peninsula Speedway.

The 'Sunset 250' qualifying would follow a unique format from any of the other rounds of the season. Each driver had 2 flying laps to set a lap time, with the top 2 drivers being locked in to start on the front row of the grid for the race. The drivers with an odd numbered position would be put into one race, with the even numbered drivers in another race. They would then fight among their group for grid positioning on that side of the grid.

EZT uncabunca and F4H Insanity locked themselves into the front row with their 2 flying laps of qualifying, with the remaining drivers fighting for their grid position in the two 'duel races'.

LMR DarthMario won the first duel race ahead of Uniform 92 and VAMR Wilson, with jgroves1996 winning the second race ahead of Bandit1097 and BDR Blackbird.

The first points-paying race of the season took place a week later with the 100 lap 'Sunset 250'. Jgroves1996 took the win in his maiden TASCAR race just ahead of F4H Insanity and DarthMario. VAMR Wilson was just off of the rostrum, with pole-sitter Uncabunca falling down to 7th place.

The second round was the Elkhart Lake 125 from Road America, the first road course on the calendar. The Bulin Wall5 took pole position, with TG Haydo taking the victory after starting from 2nd. XPR Eggy finished 2nd ahead of the pole-sitter in 3rd. DarthMario and F4H Insanity finished in 5th and 6th place, with VAMR Wilson, XPR ChicaiN and jgroves1996 in 8th, 9th and 10th.

The TASCAR circus traveled to red rocks of Sedona for the 3rd round of the season: 'The Bacardi 151'. Jgroves1996 took pole position but hit the wall during the race which caused a multiple car wreck. He was forced down into 7th place with CRA Adder taking the win ahead of BG Smithy and F4H Insanity. DarthMario and Wilson finished in 5th and 6th.

The Sonoma Valley 112k followed with XPR Eggy claiming a win from pole position. F4H Insanity and BG Wumba took the two remaining podium places. DarthMario suffered with technical difficulties which saw him finish down in 19th place, a horrible way to enter the mid-season break.

XPR Eggy returned after the month break to claim another win in the Texas 112 on the 'short-track oval' of Benchmark C. DarthMario and XPR ChicaiN joined him on the podium with XPR Moontower, F4H Insanity and jgroves1996 completing the top 6. VAMR Wilson was unable to compete due to prior commitments.

The drivers would journey across the Pacific Ocean for the first round of the season outside of the US. DarthMario claimed his 1st victory of the season in the 'TASCAR Suzuka Special' from the Suzuka East circuit. F4H Insanity was just behind Mario in 2nd place with Groves taking the final spot on the podium. VAMR Wilson unfortunately retired during the race due to technical difficulties.

Round 7 saw the second race of the season at the Sunset Peninsula Speedway for the 'Pepsi Max 200'. VAMR Wilson took pole in a close qualifying and then took the victory in one of the tightest finishes in TORA's history! XPR ChicaiN was leading heading into the final two turns of the race when Wilson launched a late assault around the outside. A drag race to the finish line settled the battle, with VAMR Wilson just beating ChicaiN to the line. Groves finished 3rd, just ahead of DarthMario and Bandit1097. Points leader F4H Insanity finished in 16th after retiring from the race. He then pulled out of the rest of the championship.

The first of two TASCAR races in Europe began with the '244k Du Mans' from the legendary Le Mans Old Mulsanne Circuit. LMR WARSPITE joined the championship for this round and subsequently took the victory after starting from 3rd. XPR ChicaiN and XPR Moontower finished 2nd and 3rd, with Groves and DarthMario in 4th and 5th. VAMR Wilson suffered from bad luck again after retiring early in the race.

Only 4 rounds remained in the season and the drivers hopped back over the Atlantic to compete in the 'Brickyard 250' at another legendary location: The Indianapolis Motor Speedway, IndyCar's back yard. VAMR Wilson was determined to make up for his bad luck and took a dominant victory after starting from pole position. Jgroves1996 finished in 2nd ahead of YGMR Bellmond who made his first TASCAR start at the event. Title contenders XPR ChicaiN and DarthMario finished off of the podium in 6th and 8th respectively.

The drivers and teams added to their air-miles yet again with another trip across the Atlantic to the Silverstone National circuit for the 'Mobil-1 121k'. DarthMario took pole position, with team-mate Warspite lining up 2nd after setting an identical time. Mario then went on to take his first victory on British soil. VAMR Wilson finished 2nd ahead of XPR Soundwave. Mario's title challengers ChicaiN and Groves finished in 5th and 6th behind Warspite in 4th.

A two week break allowed the drivers to recover from their trips back and forth across the Atlantic to prepare for the final two rounds of the season at Road Atlanta and Motegi.

A week after Nick Heidfeld, Nicolas Prost and Neel Jani took the overall victory in the ALMS Petit Le Mans, VAMR Wilson took the TASCAR win on the Road Atlanta road course. Le Mans Rennsport team-mates DarthMario and Warspite finished 2nd and 3rd, with TASCAR newcomer Freebie 53 taking a superb 4th place following a late collision between jgroves1996 and XPR Soundwave. XPR ChicaiN had led the race early on but retired shortly before the first pit-stops.

So with the stage set for the TASCAR finale at the Motegi Super Speedway in Japan, LMR DarthMario simply needed to finish in the top 10 to take the title no matter where 2nd placed Groves finished.

XPR Moontower claimed pole position, but it was TG Haydo who would take the victory ahead of the pole-sitter and VAMR Wilson. XPR Soundwave and XPR ChicaiN finished 4th and 5th. DarthMario finished in 6th ahead of jgroves1996, which was enough to secure the LMR driver his 3rd stock car championship with TORA. Groves held onto 2nd place in the championship and also took the 'Rookie of the Year' title, this being his first season of TASCAR racing.

VAMR Wilson and XPR ChicaiN were left tied on 1602 points, with Wilson being given 3rd place on count-back. Wilson had secured 3 wins compared to Cain's 0.

XPR Soundwave finished 5th in the championship with hunty1981 taking 6th for Benedict Racing. Bandit1097 took 7th place ahead of WhoIsJohnGalt87 and XB6 Broomzke, with BDR Blackbird completing the top 10 in the drivers’ standings. Former points leader F4H Insanity fell to 12th after pulling out of the series after round 7. He was just in between GT Racer 2012 in 11th and XPR Moontower in 13th.

XB6 Broomzke took the Privateer Teams championship in his XBSIX Motorsport Ford ahead of F4H Insanity in the Fight 4 Her Ford. Corey CC97 was 3rd in his Corey Customs car.

XP Racing took the teams championship with 3496 points secured by their drivers XPR ChicaiN, XPR Soundwave, XPR Moontower and XPR Eggy. Allied Forces finished 2nd ahead of Hailfire Racing in 3rd.

So there you have it! TORA TASCAR Season 3 over for another year! Next year will see the TASCAR season kick up a gear with the introduction of the new generation of NASCAR's being available to the drivers.

Congratulations to LMR DarthMario and XP Racing for their championship victories and well done to everyone who took part in this year's thrilling TASCAR championship. See you next season!

And as with the sponsor on my car from Saturday night's race, i had a couple cases of 22oz cans of Sapporo on my hauler waiting for me after the race. needless to say, my TASCAR pit crew & team were all smashed at the end of the day, or morning, seeing we were in Japan

Well done dude, and those Sapporo cans are amazing!

Wish I could have joined in for the Le Mans race. Stock Cars at Le Mans is like proper old school racing.

Great write up mate! To be involved in the the closest TORA race finish is pretty cool, 0.033 i believe it was!

I want to thank Mark for running this championship Im one of the few guys that love racing on ovals and to win the two main oval events was epic, sadly lost out on the championship, but very happy with 3rd overall. I've been 2nd, 3rd, 3rd, 3rd in the four stock car championships here at TORA.
