Re: 2014 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
^It was a difficult session, with rain arriving & Vettel being caught out by the Yellow flag. He does seem a bit rattled though, maybe not having a dominant car is getting to him?

What a race! Vettel out so nothing else matters! That is the first race I have enjoyed in a long time.

Re: 2014 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
It certainly did, but to me it bloody flew by! I was watching sebring, and that was so bad I ended up biting the bullet and decided watch this.
The race seemed very similar to the one that happened in 2003, after there was a massive overhaul in the rules, 2009 had the same problems, but that one had more surprises, this one though, the same teams from last year were up the front (right?) despite the obvious absenses early in the race.
Not nessasarily brilliant, however it was much better than everyone was making it out to be before the lights went out. SOME CARS FINISHED!!!
Valteri Bottas proving that Susie Wolff's job of getting into F1 has now just gotten a lot more difficult.
Everyone is assuming that Kobayashi simply ploughed into the side of Felipe Massa's car, Sam Collins of Racecar Engineering is convinced there was a brake failiure. There was also some contact between Kowboy and Kimi's Ferrari(?) before he broadsided the Williams.
Marrusia only 2 laps down, this to me is a massive improvement.
And Seb, the FIA Called, you know those championships you "won"? yeah, we're going to have to take those back off you...haha, just kidding.

Re: 2014 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
Yeah there was contact with kimis Ferrari or a car in that area that broke something (suspension) so koy had no steering or brakes
Re: 2014 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
I was watching the NBCSN coverage which missed out the first lot of pitstops via non-sideo-by-sideo commercial break, and to be honest i didnt notice anyone pitting for tyres other than jenson... and they're on Pirellis!!!

Re: 2014 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
Yeah they did the usual 2 stops but tyres seem to be less of an issue than last year
Re: 2014 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
So it is clear that everyone is having problems of their own, but the rookies showed amazing pace all weekend, so here's my theory:
The driving aspect of a turbo charged F1 car is far different than any F1 car in the past 10 years. I think the veteran drivers are struggling a bit to adapt to the new cars, while the rookies don't know much else; making their job of learning the cars a tad easier. That of course is not including our race winner..

What's coming through now is that Kamui didn't have any rear brakes so it may change things.

Also the rear of Felipe's car was launched in the air quite a bit when Kamui hit him so the noses are once again a talking point.

The Red bull is being checked for using too much fuel, if it has its a DQ.

Re: 2014 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
Great race to watch, quite enjoyable. Rosberg was my tip before the season and he looks pretty comfortable in the car so I hope the reliability keeps up. Loving the Aussie crowd with Dan and having Magnussun driving like that was fantastic. Can't wait for the rest of the season.
I also really like that fact that with the quieter engines you could hear the crown noise through the first few laps, really added to the atmosphere of the race. You hear more noise from the cars other than the engine so I think it's a good thing. The cars look lively and it was great watching the inboards from them.

I can still remember when Jan Magnussen was racing in F1. And this makes me feel very old now.

Oh dear.
But then, in a flow limited formula where everyone else seems to have got through the race without any investigation, who can really blame the stewards?
