Before they had the Nouvelle Chicane there, the cars had to literally slide through a gap in the wall. It was a little left right flick between two brick walls.

The only way I can think of improving the situation there is to move the chicane up towards Tabac. I think the corner is fine though. Modern F1 cars have proved time and time again that they are incredibly strong.

What saved Perez there was those barriers. They provide a lot of impulse and decrease the amount of decceleration made by the car as it hits the wall. And surely the HANS device offers some benefits with side impacts, its surely much better than not having a HANS device for a side impact.

Motorsport will never be safe, never. But what we can do is try to minimise the risk of driver fatality, and the Nouvelle Chicane at Monaco is certainly well equipped for modern F1. People need not to make knee-jerk reactions to any bad crash they see in F1.

F1 could be going to much better tracks than they do now, but unfortunately its all about the richest countries building massive car parks with painted lines and fancy hotels.

The BBC build up this year is so bad that its causing me physical pain.

Where does McNish's common sense come into play as regards to a restart?

I remember in Korea last year Mercedes completely changed the set ups on their cars when the race was red flagged. It would appear that you can change your tires too.
