Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
Not enough I reckon, this is the sort of lenience that NASCAR drivers seem to get away with.

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
yes Maldonado went for a better exit because he was stuck behind his team mate and the Lotus, Hamilton saw an opportunity to get past Maldonado to avoid his lap being truely ruined, there are no rules saying you're not allowed to overtake in qualifying and if that incident had happened in the race it would have been a normal aggressive overtake.

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
WHY IS HE APOLOGISING!? Kobaybashi was well in the wrong, he could see Hamilton was there, but still turned into him? I dunno whats wrong with some of these people.

I'm pretty sure Lewis himself has a much better idea of what happened..
It was a racing accident, usually when I see such crashes, I can think back to similar situations while racing online.
Les Combes is a very fast chicane, much faster than it looks. It was a mixture of Kobyashi expecting to slot in behind Lewis, and Lewis going in a bit wide in haste.
Racing accident.

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
Hmm, true, just not his weekend again... I think they will be pretty quick in Monza, but there is not really much point in trying to win the WDC anymore to be honest with you...

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
To be honest, I think this year will also be Vettel's year. It would be a big upset if he didn't win after his dominant pace at the beginning of the season.
We just need to see the season out, hope for good racing, and hope for a good 2012 season.

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
Yeah I agree Nicky. Maybe next year might be a bit better as there will be no blown diffuser. Might lead to newer innovations, more copycats and catching up. Thats all that F1 seems to be about now adays. New rules leads to new ideas, leads to them being banned, leads to new rules, new ideas, etc

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
F1's always been about that, from the adoption of the rear engined car, to the adoption of wings in '69, to ground effects (banned), to carbon fibre monocoques, turbo's (banned), active suspension (banned), driver aids (banned), body winglets (banned), mass damper (banned), F-duct (banned), and now the double diffuser.
Probably countless more examples.

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
Thing is though, the F-Duct was amazing, McLarens version just worked without danger. All you had to do was move you left leg over a bit. But Ferrari came out with one where you had to move your hand! Even HRT would realise thats dangerous! The only things that have stuck, and worked well, is the wings, steering wheels, KERS, and I think DRS is one which should stay!

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
KERS and DRS are not products of engineering sly, but are products of the FIA trying to make a ''show'' out of a sport.
F1 is slowly becoming a spec series. All the engines are identical in terms of specification. The tyre's are supplied by one manufacturer. Every component of every car has to be within a threshold of very strict dimensions. The rules allow for very little innovation. The engineers are looking for loopholes, or very small things they can do.
In 1998, with the advent of the grooved slick and the V10 engine, F1 lost a lot of the magic that it had. Before 1998, you could run any engine, there were multiple tyre manufacturers, the cars raced on proper circuits and took part in proper grands prix, and that is why the fans came to the track. The history, the challenge and the spectacle was tangible. KERS, DRS, Knockout qualifying and restricted tyre usage were not needed then.
CART carried on the magic of open wheel racing for a few more years, which came to an end with the 2002 season.. Since then, all that magic that took decades to build is gone. F1 just isn't the same.
I was born 20 years to damn late!

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
F1 is just dying now. And with this new Sky deal, it aint gonna make it any better. I am dreading what the rules are gonna be like for next year, or in a few years time. I am slowly getting bored of F1. Not just because of Vettel, but because its just not right anymore. The whole thing is just not as it was. I loved it when they could refuel, because you could never predict who was gonna win it. They all started on different loads, then put a little bit more in, then fuel to the end. It was good fun watching them try taking their fuel pipe with them!

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
Ok, Vettel can definitely overtake. After that move around Alonso, I don't think there can be anymore doubt about that.

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
As soon as Vettel got the lead it was going to be dull.
The only thing that kept the race going was the Obiwan vs Darth esque battle Between Shuey and Hamilton, until Obiwan was instructed to raise his litesabre and Hamilton sliced him in half.
Button supposedly catching the leader, but its all over.
Here's to another crap weekend.

They need to sort out the first two turns again, perhaps just get rid of them altogether.

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
It really ought to be a straight run through to the Curva Grande. The cars and trackside protection is ample enough these days for it to be such a danger.
Either that or a more Mulsanne-esque type chicane.

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
I think they should keep that first bit but not have it where its so slow, because that will ruin the engine cos they will be on the rev limiter for quite a few seconds, so they should just make it like where its a sort of more straighter. Like a little curve. Hard to explain but just a tiny curve.
