Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
I think it's safe to say guys that if this all comes off and the service is strong enough we are in a fantastic position with TORA's currentcrop of media output and connections to make the most of X1 and make the Forza 5 experience the best in the world.

Yes, they’re aiming to make the next Need for Speed an eye-popping visual feast that takes advantage of DICE’s Frostbite 3 engine. But, Marcus Nilsson says that it’s connectivity—and not graphics—that’s pushing the evolution of NFS.

Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
just spotted the release date for COD: Ghosts is November 5th (ad popped up while listening to my YouTube music playlist while packing for my AnimeBoston trip). if this is tied in to the next console launch, is still TBA, but thought i'd share this bit of information

Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
There's a lot of chatter coming from already announced games and their release dates, saying they will be out on such a date of PS3 and 360 with X1 and PS4 as TBA. really hard to know until E3 I think, Battlefield 4 is saying the game will release on October 29th.
Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
The current-gen games can come out before the next-gen ones, remember. There may also be current-gen ports of next-gen games that are in the works, too (there were loads when the 360/PS3 came out)

Sales of the Wii U have rocketed on Amazon.co.uk in the days following Microsoft’s Xbox One reveal.

I don't get why loads of people are jumping to the PS4. Is there something I missed in the reveal that was a deal breaker for the XB1? Seems fine to me.

Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
They made it look like the Console is focused around TV more than games, gave a trailer of 1 exclusive game (Forza) and talked about Call of Duty too much. It missed allot of information about actual games which angred me and alot of others. Also several services would only be America exclusivesKilroy8 wrote:I don't get why loads of people are jumping to the PS4. Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
Why would anyone 'decide' to move to a console we haven't yet seen, have no release date for and no price. Sony have *never* made an x86-based hardware console or operating system, and suddenly people think their first stab at it will blow away a company who's been doing exactly that for 30 years. Madness. Sony make nice XMB menus for televisions, but hardware architectures and operating systems are another thing entirely. Ever wonder why PS3 doesn't have cross game party chat?... the OS doesn't support it, each game has to implement it itself. Xbox One runs the Windows NT kernel (used by Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 ), which will make games and app development a breeze on Xbox One.

So basically because of stuff that the current 360 does (alot of america only apps) and that they going more to home entertainment.
I for one is looking forward to the xbox as a home entertainment unit not just a games console as with having a family it suits better then just a games console. I use the windows media centre at least once a week.
E3 is all about the games, this was just showing it.

Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
The stuff you have listed is a cell processor limitation primarily. Going back to 05, I would have bet the Cell Processor would have been continued to be developed as well as the HD DVD, mainly because, in principle, they are better than their competitors, in more ways than they are worse. Lack of development and consumer and industry implementation is why the PS3 is difficult to develop for, which is the only real thing that Xbox has an advantage over the PS3 in. Plus, Sony makes high end consumer and business grade PC's for years... Its not like the X86 or x64 platform is any sort of mystery to anyone in the consumer electronics industry. To me, both new consoles look a bit too similar. Its like the two oligopoly sister companies have stopped trying to compete and innovate now that they have captured the market. Now they focus on licensing agreements with developers that they screw over.CQR MAGiC wrote:Why would anyone 'decide' to move to a console we haven't yet seen, have no release date for and no price. **Edit*** Both consoles are coming out within a week of Halloween, mark my words...
Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
The PS3 limitations are not a limitation of the cell processor, they're a limitation of the operating system Sony designed. Cell was a dogs dinner for developers and only Sony's first party games (Uncharted, Gran Turismo etc) were able to extract any decent performance from it, multi-platform games ran better on the far inferior Xbox 360 hardware. Cell is/was a superior hardware design, but Sony were unable to exploit this due to their poor software design. Yes, Sony make PC's, but they don't make the operating system. Hell I can build my own PC and install Windows on it, that's all Sony do at present. Sony are stomping in Microsoft's x86 backyard now, with no hyper-V technology, no cloud-based infrastructure and a dubious record when it comes to OS and architecture development.

Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
But thats because everyone in the industry dropped the development of the cell processor (and more importantly the tools to develop for it), shortly after the release of the PS3. I'm not going to go in to the shady and anti-competitive collusion that took place which caused this, but I think its a valid point. Even the Xbox 360 was largely developed on server hardware that was cell based, but then skimped out by having intel create a reverse-engineered and completely bespoke processor that was completely inadequate for what they were trying to achieve for the consumer devices. Even the first Xbox360 development kits were cell based.
Sony pushed the envelope and stuck with the better server hardware but got burned by the fore-mentioned anti-competitive practices of companies (primarily MS and intel). In an age where large companies do not take chances, the PS3 was the first consumer grade blue-ray player, and had the first HDMI output I had. Meanwhile MS rushed out the Xbox 360 and it had problems.... Many of them.
As fir sony not being able to design consumer electronic devices end-to-end, they have been doing it a lot longer than MS has... I do agree than MS controls the x86 architecture, along with intel for the foreseeable future, but there is more to life than the OS when we are talking about consoles. Sony could just as easily rope in all of the Linux/Unix talent out there and blow MS away while MS is having their talent focus on locking down the next proprietary IC method, or mess of a infra-red specification. Lastly, I will just say that if you are in need of any more skepticism pertaining to MS designing hardware, I have one word for you, ZUNE
**Hyper-v is Just does what Virtual Box and VNC do, or perhaps I don't completely understand what it is. I was under the impression it was just a fancy backbone for RDP in windows.
