Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
I'm not making the same mistake as last time. For those who don't know I've always traditionally run both major consoles going right back to the mega drive and super Nintendo. I didn't get a ps3 until quite late on but mainly for gt5 which was a disappointment.
With the ONE having blu ray as well that really is the only defining factor of the PlayStation gone for me. Well that and gt6 which I think I can live without.
I'm very much ready for when the countdown reaches One.

Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
I'm still holding out hope for gt6. That said its going to be dead in the water if they don't eventually release it for the ps4.
I did however read that there are still 100k gt5 players on psn per month (at gt planet). There is a caveat to this number however, gt planet doesn't specify if this "100k month" was last month which happened to be gt academy (as well as the first time I turned on my ps3 in almost a year.)
MS better allow fanatec wheels to be used for the "ex-bone"... I know I will be quite apprehensive to buy it if they don't on principle.

Getting Xbox One, with Battlefield 4, Forza 5, NFS Rivals & FIFA 14. Comes to around £650. I don't know about getting a PS4, I can afford one, but don't think I'll really use it.

Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
my reason to buy a PS3 = GT5.........fail. it's now my BluRay player/PS2 disc player (launch 60GB console)
Reason to buy a PS4 = none
XBOne = FM5, BluRay.

Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
Pretty much the same for me. I only bought a PS3 for GT5 and that was highly disappointing, the only other games I've bought for it are Heavy Rain and The Last Of Us (neither of which I've got round to playing yet) so really it's only an over priced BluRay player.LMR DarthMario wrote:my reason to buy a PS3 = GT5.........fail. it's now my BluRay player/PS2 disc player (launch 60GB console)

I've got an Xbox One pre-ordered because I prefer the controller, Forza 5 is a release game, the console exclusives are more appealing to me and I can continue playing the franchises I love (mainly Halo but hopefully there'll be more GoW and another Alan Wake).
And Sony got hacked and my account details were compromised.
Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
Looks like Don's Xbone plans have been binned when he was shown the door.
Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
I wouldn't get too carried away... the actual wording was
So any game ('experience') like Forza 5 that is written to use the Kinect sensor could require you to plug it in. All he's basically confirmed is you can switch on the Xbox One and use the dashboard without plugging Kinect in, I wouldn't be surprised if 'Kinect mandatory' becomes a little bullet-point entry on the back of the box, like 'Xbox Live', 'DLC Download' etc is on 360 games.Microsoft wrote:"That said, like online, the console will still function if Kinect isn't plugged in, although you won't be able to use any feature or experience that explicitly uses the sensor"

Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
That's fair enough, if the Kinect comes in the box then you might as well plug it in, no?
Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
Yeah Stan, I don't think anything's really changed, it was just very poorly communicated by Microsoft at the initial launch, arrogance really that they thought people wouldn't want to use Kinect. It's still going to be bundled with every Xbox One, so developers will write games/experiences that use it (read *require* it), so it will, by the back-door, become mandatory to use it. But rather than using it as a stick to beat their customers, this spins it as a carrot to get them to try new things.
It was the same with the 24 hour online check-in requirement - Microsoft sold it as 'check in every 24 hours or we turn your £430 console into a Blu-ray player'. Instead of spinning it as "stay connected and take advantage of our cloud servers, so we can provide dedicated servers, automatic updates etc". Same end result, but one alienates the customer, the other makes them think it may be an improvement over 360.

Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
One expects that you can now buy it without Kinect at a cheaper price?

Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
No chance. Microsoft have already stated today that they won't be selling Xbox One without the Kinect sensor.

Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
Reminds me of the days when people thought touch-screen smartphones were a fad that wouldn't catch on... who'd want to press keys on a screen instead of real buttons? Change can be good

Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
so hang on
they're making the kinect sensor that a lot of people will never use mandatory in the bundle, but we have to buy the headsets?
that's just stupid

You WILL have to use the Kinect at some point as every game will have utilised it as every owner of an XB1 has one, unlike the Kinect 1. And the headset does come with the console.

Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
I just found this, had myself in tears :PWhile I'm all for the XB1 at this point, given the circumstances this is pretty funny.
Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
All European pre-orders of XB1 get a free copy of FIFA 14 in the box...

Re: Miscellaneous Next-Gen Gaming thread
Nice gesture, but FIFA does nothing for me. Shame it'll be a digital download or I'd trade it on day 1 for something I'll actually play!
