TORA Drift Championship Empty TORA Drift Championship

Post by theboomeranga Mon 24 Jun 2013 - 1:58

TORA hasn't had one of these for a while, so I thought why not,
Welcome to the TORA Drift Championship
TORA Drift Championship Fm4_fo10

Rules:
Judging and Qualifying
In competition, drivers are given two judged laps to qualify.

Qualifying system:

The rule breaks down thusly: as before, drivers will run in qualifying to start, and after all drivers have recorded a single (1) pass, the top 16 will be selected based on each driver’s score. Those top 16 high scorers then get to sit out the rest of qualifying – effectively done with the round until tandems – and preserve their cars.

The final 16 spots of Top 32 will be filled by the rest of the field completing one more run. Drivers ranked from 17 to the lowest positioned driver after the first run will keep their first run score and then run the second run of qualifying; the higher of the two scores will be the score that each driver keeps. From there, positions 17 to 32 will be filled.

Ok, this is how TFD is going to do things:

Qualifiers will take both runs. When qualifying ends on Friday night.Top 16 First Run scores will be locked in to the competition. From 17 -32,qualifiers that aren't locked into the field will take a second run.The best run of the 2 will be recorded on paper. So if a drifter put down a 99 on the second run.Highest a drifter can get is 17th on the qualifying list.

Each qualifying run is judged on four (4) criteria: Speed, Line, Angle, and Overall Impression.
__________________________________________________________________________________

Line is the ideal path a vehicle must take on course and is marked by Inner Clipping Points, Outer Clipping Points, and Transition Zones. Inner Clipping Point are reference points on the course where the vehicle’s front bumper should come asclose as possible to the reference point. Outer Clipping Points are also reference points and scored by determining howclose the corner of the vehicle’s rear bumper comes to the point. Transition Zones are areas on track where the direction of the line changes and vehicles must change the direction of their drift.

Angle measures the amount of counter-steer and relative rear slip angle a driver uses through the course.

Overall Impression is the general feel of the pass and how well the other three criteria were executed through the entirety of the lap. This is the most subjective criteria and judges will look for the most “excitement” that the driver can bring.

Speed

TFD's speed rule actually differs from FD rules while they use a all or nothing scoring system we use a deductive speed system

We still have two speed zones on every track that are worth 5 points each for a total of 10 points for speed.

All or nothing EX: speed zone 1 and 2 is 70. Your speed is 68 in both zones in turn you get a zero for speed.

Deductive EX: speed zone 1 and 2 is 70. Your speed is 68 in both zones in turn you get 3 points for both zones. overall you get a 6 for speed.

Drivers should be able to demonstrate full control of the car at all time.
__________________________________________________________________________________

Qualifying Runs

Speed=10

Angle=25

Line=25

Overall Impresion=40

Total=100

Tandem Elimination Rounds

Tandem round are based on two (2) runs, in Head-to-Head format, with competitors paired up based on seeding position. The higher qualifier will lead the first run and the second led by the lower qualifier.

The critical success factor is for the lead car to be able to run the course without error while being pressured by thefollowing car. The following car is to try and “out drive” the lead car. Driver consistency during a tandem battle is critical.

Lead Car must be able to clear the course without making any errors due to distraction or pressure by the following car.

Following Car needs to run the same basic line as the lead car but may also take a higher line in order to pressure the lead driver. Taking a lower line than the lead car will result in a loss of advantage. If the lead car is off line, the following car will gain advantage points by staying on the correct line althrough will not be deducted points for following the lead car. The following car should keep as close to the lead car as possible to gain the advantage.

Passing is allowed in Virtual Formula Drift. Passing is allowed anywhere on course as long as the lead car is clearly off the line the judges have specified. Any passing that occurs outside the scope of the aforementioned criteria will be deemed illegal and constitute an equivalence to a zero (0) run.

Collisions occur during tandem battle and in the event of contact, the driver at fault will lose advantage points. Incidental contact is allowed but not encouraged. Drivers are required to complete the entire course, even if the other driver crashes, hits, spins, stalls or is not able to complete the run. Drivers are always being judged as long as they are on course.

Pace Roll In The past we just used a straight up "50 Roll" this season we are using a Pace Roll. Both drivers will agree on a roll speed it could be slower or faster depending on the drivers. However if a decision cant be made by the drivers both drivers will use the VFD suggested roll which will usually be 50. Note: the end of the roll will not change only the speed.

Tandem Scoring will be observed by the (3) judges during the head-to-head battle. There will be no declaration of scores between the two runs. At the conclusion of the head-to-head battle, each judge will individually declare a winner. Judges will select from three options:

1. Driver “A” wins

2. Driver “B” wins

3. “Tie”

The majority will rule a winner will be decided.

In the event there is no clear majority, a “One More Time” will be granted, and the competitors will begin another 2-run head-to-head battle.

Multiple “One More Times” may be necessary to determine a winner Up to three.
_________________________________________

Specific issues identified as zeros (0) in qualifying and tandem.

Formula DRIFT has identified specific terms that would receive a judging zero (0) in both qualifying and tandem.

Qualifying:
- Spinning out
- Loss of drift
- Two tires off course

Two or more of the following items constitute and automatic zero in tandem:
- One wheel off course
- Straightening
- Hitting a cone or course marker
- Double entry
- Abrupt stop
- Stalling
- Resulting contact causes an abrupt change in the vehicles drift and/or causes a spin

Car Rules:

Tyres: Sport, Street or Stock tyres only, no race or drag slicks
No Positive Camber
RWD ONLY
A540-S700PI only
no more than 650 HP
No Forza Aero
any car, upgrades, that fit these regulations is eligible, inculding any rims, super/turbochargers and FWD/AWD to RWD convertions
Full tuning is avaliable

Calendar:
The TORA FDC will be run over 8 weeks, at Saturday 2am BST/8pm EST/11 am AEST (dates yet to be confirmed)

R1 Sunset Club
R2 Tsukuba Short
R3 Motegi East
R4 Road Atlanta
R5 Silverstone National
R6 Sebring Full
R7 Nurburgring GP full
R8 Indianapolis GP
R9 Benchmark A- bonus round

I will post videos on the layout for each section shortly in a separate post

Approach
when approaching a run, you will have the opportunity to do one practice run, and time to warm up your tyres, once that is done, your two qualifying/tandem runs can begin. besides the rules previously stated, the only extra rule is the 50+/- rule. The 50+/- rules is that the approach speed (before the speed marker) is 50 mph, you are allowed a +/- of 3 mph, so the run speed is from 47 to 53 mph. i understand that it is difficult to maintain these speeds on Forza, so some leeway will be given, but abusing that will results in 0s for qualifying or loss of tandem run (after warnings are given).

so that's all for rules. I will post registration thread soon for anyone interested.
thanks guys

i was thinking of running it either a saturday morning UK (9-10am BST) but then US guys can't run in it, or a few hours after Mikeys spec series (3am BST), but then UK guys can't run, so at the moment, i'm tossing up which one would be best for time
but it will start 3 weeks after Le Mans (19/20th July)

It's been a long time since I have been in the drift scene on forza so I have a question. Do they run Sunset the way you did in the video? Because they used to do it the other way?
