Re: NA Mazda MX-5 Cup - Lap times/Tuning Support
To update, XPR Venom and Dtech both have tunes up. As well as some guys from the other series, BR Bolland 95 I think.
Using Venom's tune, we were running 2:32s around Sebring.

Re: NA Mazda MX-5 Cup - Lap times/Tuning Support
So... I just stumbled across something when lapping Sebring. Does everyone here use some form of trailbraking or gas+brake combination? For the life of me, I couldn't figure out how either Dtech or Kilroy were able to take turn 1 so fast. My car always breaks lose or drifts way outside when going that fast. Then I tried it again, while keeping my finger on the gas but applying the brakes for a second and the car just STUCK to the pavement, keeping the speed and the RPMs up (giving me a better corner exit also). I went from losing 4-5 car lengths on that turn to coming out ahead. Now I am experimenting with other corners. Really only seems to help on turn 1 and the S turns before the last straight so far. So is this just the car? Or because its my first time with TCS off? Does everyone do it? If so, any tips on how/when to do it correctly? This is a HUGE epiphany for me! Knocked 3 seconds off my laptime. (consistent lap times anyway. i did have 1 fluke 2:37 before, but I went from running constant 2:39s to 2:36s.)

Re: NA Mazda MX-5 Cup - Lap times/Tuning Support
that's what i do as well. some corners i even just tap the brakes, downshift and back on the gas(either rolling or wide open) as part of my entry.

Re: NA Mazda MX-5 Cup - Lap times/Tuning Support
Also, there are many strategies to take turn 1. The first one is, just take off the gas after crossing the bridge, downshift and turn in with full gas for the exit. The second one is, keeping your line close to the wall (right side) after crossing the bridge and before end of the wall, you just hit the brake, downshift and turn in with full gas for exit. When I practice I like to see my replays to verify my braking points and see how close and fast I pass thru the apex. That's my reference points and strategies that I personally used for race.
For the race day, I used different strategies... You need to be more careful and aggressive in the same time. To motivate you, not always the faster guys win... Because, they have a lot of pressure behind them. So, see you on the track mate.

Re: NA Mazda MX-5 Cup - Lap times/Tuning Support
Thanks guys. I couldn't keep a smooth line with this car just turning in without braking at all though. I am not too good at smooth steering movements with the stick and without TCS on, that can be really bad at high speed, lol. Now that I'm practicing without TCS though, I'm working on it. I know sometimes fastest lap times doesn't equal a win. I can be consistent. Problem is... consistently SLOW does equal a loss, lol. I was hoping to gain some spots with consistency in the endurance series, but everyone was just so much faster. After I fell way back, then I find myself getting stupid and wreckless trying to catch back up. It will be a while before I'm challenging for a podium, but I'll get there. I've already gotten so much faster since joining this site. And I've gone from full assists (even auto, lol) to none in the last 2 months. I surprised myself last night also. Raced in a multiclass hopper. Forgot to turn TCS back on and didn't even notice it while I was winning (until I got in S class and picked a Viper)

Re: NA Mazda MX-5 Cup - Lap times/Tuning Support
Thanks for the tunes XPR Venom and DTechR! I was actually managing faster times with DTech's tune, but was no where near as consistent as I was with Venom's when I was hotlapping. Managed to finally break into the 1:35's DURING the race last night, lol. I was stuck at 1:36.0X for the longest time.
Now time to get to work for Road Atlanta. Anyone have an IDEA what I should be aiming for?

Re: NA Mazda MX-5 Cup - Lap times/Tuning Support
I just realized, these cars don't have adjustable trans do they? So that tune will probably work for just about every track, right? (To a certain degree)
