TORA Caterham Trophy - Test Session - Saturday 9th May

Hey everyone.

As I'm sure you're aware, we'll be starting our new Spec Cup, the Caterham Trophy, on May 15th. However, seeing as we will all be completely new to the Project CARS title, we will need to familiarize ourselves with this new game.

So, to help us do the best preperation possible, I'll be hosting a test session on Saturday 9th May 2015 ( at 7PM BST), which coincidently, is exactly one day after the launch of CARS here in the UK. This will enable us to explore all the options possible & help us complete the official lobby settings for this championship. There is no limit as to how long this test session will last. So we can trial the game out for as long as you like.

If you would like to take part & help TORA make the best preperation possible, please state whether you're IN, Maybe or OUT for this test session.

Some of us in the US would like to take part in this too considering the game is released on the 12th in NA. Is there any chance of pushing back the date of the test session?

Regardless, I guess I can change my region settings.

as far as i know your release date is based on the store in which you bought it, so changing your region will not change te unlock date.
atleast this happened to a couple of friends of mine who bought horizon 2 in the dutch store, and even after changing their region they still needed to wait till the european release date.

and for testing:

I can neither confirm or deny whether it works for where you bought it from or not (unlock date wise) but I do know that changing your region for it to unlock early is a myth and won't work.

I think this should be on the 13th or 14th to allow Americans a chance to test as well.

Not really a great idea to host it on either the 13th or 14th. I can definitely understand where you're coming from and I do hope that Louis (who's in charge of organising the Spec Cups for the US) will come up with something epic as well. I would love to include our american & australian members also into this series test.

But the main reason why I don't think either 13th or 14th May would be a great idea is because it wouldn't allow us enough time for the preperation needed for this series. Just imagine if we decided to do the test on either day, one or two days before the championship begins, only to find out that the games servers wouldn't cope and everyone has difficulty jumping into lobbies or there's catastrophic lag due to this issue, or the lobbies would end up tremendously broken.
Having it a few days earlier would give us enough time to come up with a back up plan just in case we had this senario.

I hope this makes sense. The last thing I would want to do is disappoint & let the community down because there wouldn't be a Caterham Trophy to run.

Dan, if the servers are going to suck on release, you're probably going to have to delay the start of the championship. In my opinion, the 15th is a little early to start. I think the best start time would be sometime in June. This will also give Americans more time to practice.

Just want to point out that Project CARS on console doesn't use servers, it's all peer-to-peer - i.e. each Xbox in the lobby talks directly to each other, there are no central servers involved. So any lag in the lobby will be due to individuals connections (namely slow upload speed). The lobby host should be someone with a fast upload speed (i.e. fibre optic broadband) as their connection will be able to cope better - remember too that Microsoft minimum recommendations for Xbox One are 1.5Mb download and 768kbps upload, so if people have less than this then they could cause lag.

What happened to the Dedicated servers that I've seen in practically every entry into the build notes?

Dedicated servers are, and always have been, PC only. XB1, PS4 and 32-bit PC are 16-player peer-2-peer.

PC dedicated servers are user-hosted (i.e. you need someone with a high powered PC and fast connection to run the server on that PC, then all the other PC's can connect to that server - as it common with PC dedicated server racing sims like Assetto Corsa etc).

Whatever happens, we will be prepared. And if it turns out that the reliability isn't there yet online, then it's only natural that the calendar will be pegged back until everything is running smoothly.

Not to sound like a politician or anything, but I will guarantee that I am fully committed & will do my upmost to bringing this series to everyone. No matter when, it will happen! But we will wait and see what happens on the 9th May. If it's really good straight out the box, then our plans can go ahead as scheduled.
