Re: Am Iron Season 4 Shop Talk
Anybody have a tune I can use? I can't run this series full time because of my schedule, but I may be down to slap some American Iron tonite, but I don't have time to make a competitive tune. It could be any car, don't really have a preference.

I have tunes shared for a few cars, but I'd recommend either the Cougar or 70 Z/28.

I'd wager that's not entirely the case. Yes, "some" are knocking out unreal lap times. They end up in A Lobby. But, with four lobbies' worth of racers, there's quite a large spread from the fastest to the slower drivers in D Lobby. Chances are there's at least a few drivers at your pace.

Re: Am Iron Season 4 Shop Talk
My apologies for leaving the race early. This is officially the first race I have ever quit out of and it wasn't a proud moment. I had a horrible day yesterday and my frustration level was through the roof after the many problems I had on track. Not sure what what the deal was with my car but it handled completely different during the race as compared to practice...like spontaneous spin-outs. I had similar problems last week too. It was just better all around that I cut my losses and chalked this up to a drop round. I've accepted the fact that this just isn't a series I can thrive in. With all the different build and tune combinations...I just don't have time to create and test a proper tune that's remotely competitive and in some cases (last night), driveable.
I'm gonna stick it out though. See ya'll next week.

Re: Am Iron Season 4 Shop Talk
^ Next round is a bit more simple... tune in all the grip you could possibly find. No compromise needed for straight line speed.

My car was feeling out of sorts too I have to admit. I was having a very hard time going into turn 1, and my lap times were struggling to break 1:19.000 whereas in practice I was not struggling to hit 1:18.800. Very strange.
As for frustration, well, it happens to the best of us occasionally. You put some time into a car and it doesn't go well, and then you add any real life problems in the mix, and bam! Your out! lol I always try to keep in mind that this is just a hobby, and you can't always do well every race.

Re: Am Iron Season 4 Shop Talk
VIR South is for the most part uncharted waters. This could be a rather long race with a few spots that this track can bite you each and every lap. I'm thinking that keeping yourself out of trouble can really pay off this time around.

Can't wait for 3/4 of the field to either overshoot T1 or ram into the back of someone so that they overshoot T1

@mako The first turn here is harder than it looks- the approach is uphill, you crest, then it's downhill on entry. On every practice session so far, I've nearly overshot the turn on my opening lap. Need to brake earlier when the tires/brakes are cold.
Also need to find a way to make the 'Stang to 21 laps on a fuel run... If I have to use the stock motor again

I think I've only driven on this particular track a couple of times so it sounds like I need to get some time on it to avoid a horrible outcome.

Re: Am Iron Season 4 Shop Talk
There is a safety car rules for American Iron. Any incident occurred during the race that involve three o more cars have the benefit to call a safety car. Please read info below for your knowledge
Safety Car Rules
There will be no designated ‘safety car’ vehicle utilized in our championships, due to the limited nature of online race lobbies. However, TORA does operate general safety car regulations which provide a similar outcome, utilizing the lead vehicle in the lobby to slow the cars to a safe speed whilst any obstruction is cleared from the circuit, or allowing affected competitors to repair any damage and catch up with the rest of the field.
- When the Safety Car Is Used
The Safety Car will only be deployed if an incident or incidents occur between three or more competitors that severely impairs all competitors race. Only a driver involved in the incident may request the safety car, and make the request to the Lobby Captain. The Lobby Captain may seek the opinions of other competitors, before making the decision to activate the safety car period. The Safety Car may not be requested during the final two laps of a race.
- Forming a Safety Car Period
In the event of a safety car period being called, the lead car takes the role of the Safety Car or Pace Car. The Safety Car must not exceed 60MPH and the pack must form in current race position in single file.
- Conduct During Safety Car Period
Drivers involved in the incident should form at the back of the pack, in order of relative position before the incident, unless there is an obvious instigator. Competitors must keep a reasonable distance during the Safety Car Period. Brake testing during the Safety Car period will not be tolerated and may lead to penalties, either race meeting or championship.
Warming of tires is permitted but must be undertaken in a safe manner with due consideration given to other competitors.
Competitors who leave the track by their own volition during the Safety Car period may be passed by the rest of the pack and the competitor will form at the back of the field.
Drivers not involved in the incident may pit during a Safety Car Period, but will resume the race at the back of the field.
If the grid has not formed by the time the pole sitter reaches the pit lane entrance, the safety car may continue for another lap. It is YOUR duty to ensure the safety of your fellow competitors.

Re: Am Iron Season 4 Shop Talk
Interesting, I always read that first sentence as "No safety car", but upon further inspection that's not the case.
3+ fully damaged cars to cause a SC- May have to be ready for it for VIR.

Correction...I've never seen this track. Interesting layout with a lot of strange, blind, multi-apex corners. I managed a 1:11.8 but don't see that getting any better without a radical tune modification.

Homestead was even more fun than I'd have guessed it to be.

Indeed, and some really great driving in the middle of A-Lobby I have to say!
Re: Am Iron Season 4 Shop Talk
Blew my chance at a podium
Anyway, had a decent season and some good battles in the early races. Thanks to the hosts/organizers for their hard work and another series in the books.
