I think you had to set the difficulty in the press conference at the beginning of the game (I think??). In that case, I've got it on legendary mode.
I'm loving this game more and more but Monaco is cheesing me off right now. I've managed to put the Lotus on pole by just over half a second but I crashed twice in the two attempts so far. I'll try again in the race tomorrow when I'm feeling fresher. Wink
How far have some of you got to now? And how's the title hopes going in a crappy car? Wink I had a four point lead over Alonso after the shambles at Catalunya.

When you select the difficulty before each race you can press A on that option to tweak the AI difficulty as well as the main difficulty.

I know where it is now! Cheers Chris. Wink It was already on Legend difficulty so I didn't need to do anything.

But I have just finished now at Montreal. Placed the Lotus on pole and I had to literally set qualifying laps every lap in the 21 lap race because of Hamilton and Vettel. Blooming sweating by the end of it! lol Razz

Ok, since I'm 2 weeks behind everyone else I have only had a few days to play the game a bit. And I have to say I don't know how you guys who are playing on legend are getting the low cars that high up, I physically can't keep up with any faster car than the bottom 6 and even then I sometimes struggle. The game feels great but I can't keep a decent consistant pace to keep up with anyone higher than the 6 cars. I have had a few single races in Renaults, Red Bulls, Ferraries etc and they are all very well balanced with the other top cars so I don't see how you guys are doing this in an HRT or a Lotus.

Also this is one of the most frustrating games ever, I know how to drive a car but I am constantly spinning the car going into heavy braking zones. I actually feel like a rookie drievr having to work really hard to learn how to drive the cars.

What he said. How anyone can get a Lotus, HRT or Virgin on pole, let alone in the top 5, is beyond me.

Once you know the tracks well enough and comfortable on the throttle it becomes alot easier.

There were tracks where I did stuggle, Korea being one of them. I got into Q3 but couldn't do any better than 10th. I then finished outside the points.

But at Abu Dhabi which I'm very familiar with now, It was all too easy. I finished over 25 seconds clear of Webber in 2nd.

Ok, just to see whta happened I put the AI to Professional and in P1 I am sitting 5th and haven't dialled the car in yet around Shanghai. I was still scruffy as I don't know the track. tbh I would feel like I was cheating if I left it at Professional so I'm gonna switch it back to Legendary. Feels more realistic if I am at the end of the grid. I have no assists on apart from the braking line.

Yeah I'm on Legend with no assists. It really does help to have the car setup, can really take off seconds with a good setup car.

On legend i couldnt get a lotus in the top 5 for qually, but i could race it well to a podium almost everytime. Now that im in season 2 with the Toro Rosso, Im putting it on the top 5 everytime and winning with relative ease depending on how good i am with the track, Like bahrain (one of my best other than montreal) I won by like 35 seconds. Im running no assists other than low TCS as well

In a way, it depends how you are playing the game. I don't know what it's like with the controller but it is blooming awesome with the wheel and pedals. I have total confidence in the game and I can push really hard as a result. I don't use driver aids but it might help you a bit; especially using traction control if you are stuggling with wheel spin.
I struggled in South Korea with the Lotus as well. I managed to qualify eight but I could only manage 14th in the race. But because of the confidence I have in the wheel and pedals (when its working properly! lol Razz ), I managed to take 6 poles and 9 wins in the Lotus.
I don't really have an honest answer of why some of us can do well in a crap car. Its a bit like asking why some people are really good on Modern Warfare 2 and some one like me is crap at it.

Things are going even better in season 2 with Ferrari. I've just finished in Canada and I've won every grand prix except Spain (finished 4th) and I'm beating my team mate (Fernando Alonso) by 121 points. Very Happy

patch news.....

Hi everyone,

It’s been a while since we last updated on the forthcoming F1 2010 patch so here is where things are at currently…

The team are hard at work, and have been since launch, building the patch. We’ve focussed on both fixes to the game and a number of gameplay improvements based on your feedback. Once the process has finished, we can then release the patch for submission which will take an additional couple of weeks until it is available for release. Here is a quick overview of the main issues which we’re addressing:

1. Corrupt Save Games - We have identified an over-zealous anti-cheating check that manifested as falsely identified corrupt saves, specifically the ones relating to practice and R&D upgrades, the save-games should now load without issue. However if any of you are experiencing corrupt saves outside of this then please continue to send your PS3 save game files to us (Xbox360 & PC saves aren’t of any use to us) and we can test these against the latest patch to see whether all instances of this issue have now been fixed

2. AI not pitting in dry races where a mandatory pit stop was required (20% or more) – This has been fixed.

3. Player held in pit-stop too long – We’ve improved exit logic so that it isn’t too cautious in holding players during a pit-stop.

4. Puncture frequency reduced – The likelihood of players suffering punctures has been reduced.

5. Pit-stop lock-ups - Fixed several instances which caused the pit crew to lock-up and not be able to service the cars.

6. Automatically updating race strategy – Selecting prime tyres from the tyre menu (over default option) now updates the strategy so that the pit-crew assign options during the pit stop as opposed to re-attaching another set of primes (in a dry race of 20% or more).

7. First lap calculates correctly – The lap time for the first lap of the race now calculates correctly, from the lights going out as opposed to the cars crossing the start line.

In addition to these fixes we’ve also made improvements to the game based on your forum feedback:-

1. OSD changes – showing split times rather than gap to leader – We’ve changed how the OSD timing information functions so that split times are now displayed on the OSD, showing race time and race time differences to the other cars – I.e. how far ahead/behind are at a sector boundary.

2. AI affected more by damage received – Damage sustained by an AI’s car will have a greater effect their handling characteristics, effectively slowing damaged AI down more. AI cars that cannot maintain a racing speed will naturally yield to faster cars & come into the pits for repairs. As before, If they receive too much damage, they will retire from the race.

3. AI yielding to other cars when not on flying lap in qualifying - Improved AI behaviour to move off the racing line or out of the player’s way when the player is on a flying lap.

4. Increased wheel support – Increased wheel support and force feedback tweaks (where applicable) for the following wheels; Thrustmaster Ferrari F430 Force Feedback (officially supported), Thrustmaster Ferrari GT Experience (officially supported), Thrustmaster RGT Force Feedback Pro Clutch (not officially supported but will work), Fanatec Porsche 911 Turbo S & GT3 RS2 (both officially supported).

5. Wet weather improvements - Rebalanced graphical and handling effect of cars driving on a wet track - the level of wetness has been increased as well as tyre trails being made more prominent.

6. Improved Damage Modelling – Tweaks to the damage system so that more damage is visible / received during lesser impacts.

7. Next lap invalidated time trial logic - In time trial the next lap is no longer invalidated for any offence committed in the 3rd sector. It is calculated per track and is predominantly based on the final corner.

8. AI: Driver Behaviours - Addressed some issues in driver behaviour balancing that were causing occasionally unrealistic finishing positions.

There have also been several PC specific improvements as well:-

1. PC 'replay saving' and playback – You will be able to save out the files to replay them later or share them with others.

2. DX11 – The F1 2010 patch will enable the game to run on DX11. All of the graphical improvements are configurable from graphical options when in DX11. Specifically, "ultra" settings for 'shadows' and 'postprocess'. (These options require a lot of processing power, and are only recommended for high-end graphics cards.

3. Eyefinity Support – F1 2010 now supports 3 x 1 or 3 x 2 monitor display setups (minimum requirement of 3 x monitors)

4. Optimisations – We have made better use of multi-core processors in general, which will lead to better framerates on higher end machines.

5. Additional Support - Support for SandyBridge processors, which also adds support for currently available 'modern' processors, like Core i7, which wasn't correctly detected previously.

This list is not exhaustive of the issues being addressed in the patch but a snap shot of the key improvements. Please keep your feedback coming though as it is invaluable both for the work on the patch and for the design of F1 2011.

Once the patch goes into submission, we’ll try to give you guys a heads up as to when it will be live and ready to download as soon as we know.

Thanks for your continued support & feedback.

The F1 2010 Development Team.

Well I put the f1 game back in my drive on tuesday night and done the 3 practice sessions at Turkey, I was on the results page and returned to paddock, let it save all the data and return to the paddock and switched it off, turned it back on wednesday and get load failed corrupt save.

So what a waste of time I have spent on the game to be right back at the start

I heard that if you are doing R&D you get that problem. So if you have done R&D skip to quali before exiting and you shouldn't have that problem.

I just played this game for the first time today using the controller rather than my wheel and I have to know how you guys can race with it? I thought it was horrible and just too arcadey. With the wheel the game felt really good and the cars felt like they had some weight behind them, it felt better than Forza 3. With the pad it just feels like Grid. I couldn't get a clean lap or into a rythm with it at all.

Just had an epic race in Velenca. qualified second row in the lotus. had a strong first stint coming into the pits from first and came out behind Schumacher in second. i maintained a 5 sec gap for most of the race even after damaging my front wing. At lap 22 of 23, i ended up removing the rest of my front wing. i fought off vettle for 4 sectors and still won the race with vettle all over my rear wing for the entire last 4 sectors.
