Re: Gran Turismo 5 Discussion thread
LOL Fail by Sony, offical recomendation to stop the game frezzing during load screens on GT5 while a patch is worked on, you will need to race disconected from Playstion network, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
But any way after a night to think about GT5, GT5 is epic when everythink goes right, the tracks, the day night weather conditoms are great, but the menus the loading times, the lack of a polished look to the general layout of the screens where gT5 fails.
If you are like me who does not want to spend £ on a wheel to make the game work......so agian this falls down to the ps3 dual shock controler, which omg they have not even included the options to calabrite settings for thumbstick deadzones which then begs me to beilf if they gave a wheel with every copy sony would not be reciving the bad reception. We all know that a wheel is ideal but with Forza you dont need a wheel to drive so I am now looking at logic tech gt wheel but must I buy that to enjoy a game sony you idiots.
Looking at GT5 compared to Forza 3, well I for 1 was thinking GT5 would go way beond Forza 3, sadly they fail, Turn 10 have nothing to worry about when Forza 4 is realsed and they include weather, day night go back to custom lobbys, open tyres, better cars and leaderboards polophony will be kicking them selves, as they will need to seriously ask themselves why they failed to beat Forza 1, 2 and 3 with almost 10 years of devlopment.

Magictap wrote:oh dear, just not going to invest I'm sorry: "Delivered in an eleventh-hour patch, online multiplayer is not wholly bad. There are neat racing ideas, like shuffle races that dole out cars semi-randomly and a free run phase with a 'track day' feel before the race itself (not that anyone's using that, currently). The "community" presentation within GT Mode, focusing on your friends' profiles, is great; you can gift cars and items, chat on messageboards and follow each other's progress here, as well as start private races. Racing is highly customisable and it will suit a consenting group of friends very well.
As a public game, though, GT5 needs a lot of work. There's no matchmaking at all, so you have to browse a list of rooms and pick one, or enter an alphanumeric code, as if you're playing a PC game and it's 1999. The netcode is unstable; after a long pause I started one race alone on the grid, with the rest of the field halfway around the track already.
The game's lack of a car classification system (less of an issue in the offline GT Mode than it used to be) means an unruly free-for-all that will soon stamp out the use of anything other than thousand-horse monsters. There's no persistence or reward for participating in multiplayer: no experience, no money, no ranking, not even points carried over consecutive races.
Polyphony was left behind by online gaming long ago, and it has a lot of catching up to do. The gulf to its upstart rival on the other console is wide indeed. Forza's marketplace for cars, paint jobs and tuning might not be GT's bag, but its brisk matchmaking and comprehensive time-trial leaderboards should be standard-issue in this genre. They're nowhere to be seen."
roll on fm4 ;O) oh, and shift 2 which I expect to be awesome, oh and dirt 3, oh and 2011 multi plat GRT ;O)
Couldnt agree more, I am seriously thinking about selling my ps3 and gt5.
Re: Gran Turismo 5 Discussion thread
Yeah I ran the game without PSN last night and it was fine. But let's face it the servers will be getting an absolute caning for the next week or so.
Re: Gran Turismo 5 Discussion thread
I'm still really enjoying the game, although there is a major problem with the G27 with regards to 2nd gear. It simply doesn't work properly. And I'm not the only one who has the problem. Its not officially supported, which is a major faux par on Sonys part. Imagine not giving official support to Logitechs most comprehensive wheel. Must be to push their GT seires wheels but its boogles the mind why they didn't include it. At least it works though and I'm not forced to buy a cheapo piece of MS plastic.
I was a bit annyoed by the loading last night but I've been on tonight and the load times have already drastically reduced. I haven't been stuck on a nice GT logo today yet either. Its because it loads everything from the servers when you move screens and due to, basically, the entire PSN network being on the one game its been struggling along like all major games do on day one.
And your right Duncan, I rarelt played GT5P cause I had a controller but when I got my wheel I could play it all day. Same goes for GT5, I don't think I could play it much with the controller.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 Discussion thread
Dunc, seriously, let me go over the better layout for you on the pad and it'll be much better
Re: Gran Turismo 5 Discussion thread
Apparently the Nov 27th patch will include Leaderboards and Matchmaking. The game is planned to be updated constantly like Burnout Paradise which over the fews years it's been out is a totally different game than it started out as.
Re: Gran Turismo 5 Discussion thread
im not sure if anyone has had this happen, but late this morning (before i left for my grandparents' house for thanksgiving lunch/dinner) i was watching the Data Log from my created track, and after the first cycle, the game glitched. no audio, the video started over, and had no controller input other than the right-analog stick. so i just hit the PS-Home button, quit the game, and shut my ps3 down. there are also moments where i can tell the frame rate drops a tiny bit. overall, its better than the previous title, but IMO, not much better. in-game tuning upgrades are still astronomical. i had about 97~99k CR built up, bought a used '03 350Z for 31k, a stage 1 & stage 2 weight reduction (you have to buy them in order too), chassis reinforcement, window upgrades, suspension, drivetrain upgrades, a new paint job (painted it Dark Grey Metallic from the 2011 STi Sedan i bought) and im under 8k left.
btw, if you guys are on my friends list on PSN, i clicked on the 'Share with Friends' button for my created track. i named it 'NewEngland Speedway'. 3.25mile track. also have a snow track, but apparently cannot share more than one at a time

Yeah I just had my first go at adding parts to my wee civic and I had about 100k and spent it all on not that much. Saving up to get the race spec kit for it

Re: Gran Turismo 5 Discussion thread
I imported my Skyline R34 from my PSP, the one that looks like a race car that I remade on Forza and honestly the livery is that mushed and blurry it looks like a direct lift from GT4. I'll grab a pic but I was looking forward to using that car as well
Re: Gran Turismo 5 Discussion thread
You should of known, that any cars transfered from the PSP were going to be a standard car. Also the car models in GT4 are better, then GT PSP.
However it could of been worst for the standard models, if they didn't do any small tweaking to the uncompressed files.

Has anyone noticed the Ford Mustang GT Premium '07? here in the states, i cannot remember there being reflecter panels on the rear bumper (under the tail lights) or signal markers above the GT logo on the front quarter panels. im wondering where PD got there sample car

Re: Gran Turismo 5 Discussion thread
I tried creating an online 'room' last night and it seemed quite funky. I did a couple of online races with a friend of mine and seemed to run pretty well. The only annoyance is you can't send out direct invites, people have to take it upon themselves to join your lobby.
Touch wood that aside from initial set up problems I haven't had any more ingame problems whilst logged in to PSN so far.

The pictures you guys are posting are ridiculous. Some of them, especially Jamie's, look like the real thing.
Other than that...
Sounds like the over-hype has started kicking in.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 Discussion thread
Apsrently there's a patch due today to start to sort out/add in online functionality.
More patches are expected around Dec 1st and thereafter. PD are sure quick on the ball right now. Hate to say it but T10 could learn a few things here in terms of speed of response to community driven issues.
The pictures are utterly crazy. I haven't had time to take them off my PS3 yet.... need to dig out my USB stick first! But Richy can vouch for a couple of crazy shots I have so far. Not quite on par with Jamie there but this is a virtual SLR and he's used to the real thing. REAL photographers will be in their element with GT5.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 Discussion thread
well i'm stumped on one thing and that is how to unlock the endurance races. I noticed in the license tests, that there were 6 licenses and there were only 5 racing categories to chose from so i figured "is this how you get them?" but alas it is not, guess im gonna have to go to the game store and get the guide book.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 Discussion thread
Level 25 they unlock I read on the GT forums.
Oh and the top gear challenges are the worst things I I've ever done in a game. I now hate the lotus Elise.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 Discussion thread
you and me both Richy. the VW Bus was uttlery boring, and the Elise 111, where to start!! the back gets away too easy, and the throttle pick-up is 50/50. i have the throttle trigger pinned, and it's sputtering on and off the throttle. the nascar challenges are stupid too. no nascar driver in their right mind would drive THAT low coming out of Turn 1 at Indy. and the challenge to try & stay in the high lane at Daytona is meant for the wheel. the track is extremely bumpy up there and a tiny bit too much left-stick input, im either tagging the wall or hitting the cones and disqualifying myself

Re: Gran Turismo 5 Discussion thread
Yeah I when I was doing them I was thinking how extremely difficult it would be with the ps3 controller. I hate doing stock car in forza with the continued and they aren't as sensitive as the ps3 ones
