New film: 'Rush' - Hunt v Lauda

A new film looks set to hit the screens in the next year or two based on the titanic battles between James Hunt and Niki Lauda. Anyone who knows much about Hunt/Lauda will no doubt be excited at the prospect. Ron Howard (of Frost/Nixon and Da Vinci Code fame) is directing.

So this is a full ''Grand Prix'' style movie, rather than a ''Senna'' style documentary type thing?

If so, they better do a damn good job of it!

According to IMDB, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) will play James Hunt and Fredrick Zoller (Daniel Bruhl) will play Niki Lauda.

Off to nurburgring now to race a proper car around a proper track and do some filming for the new lauda/hunt movie! It's a hard life :-)

They must be getting the historic F1 drivers and their cars in for filming!

Very cool time for F1 back then. Hunt was a real "playboy" and Lauda was the master. Not sure if the story will interest the non-racing public.

I don't know why, but something tells me this movie is going to turn out having unrealistic crashes and gearboxes with 17 gears while taking ten minutes to drive down a straightaway.

Don't forget the slow motion crashes that last 5 minutes

Or impossible in-car hand motions and passes.

I wouldn't worry about any of those mindless cliches.

I trust Ron Howard with this.

Apollo 13 was pretty much as it happened, right down to real crew transcripts, and Gene Kranz's mannerisms.

One of few (and the biggest) inaccuracy was Tom Hanks' Jim Lovell saying ''Houston, we have a problem'', when in real life he said ''Houston, we've had a problem''.

I think (and hope) we're in safe hands. It can't possibly be any worse than Driven. And the cinematography looks great.

This looks fantastic - I will be really interested to see this.

HOWEVER, it had better not turn out like Driven ^^^^ as Nicky has pointed out. If there's ever a film that defines the 'Bargain Bucket', that is it.

I'm a bit annoyed that all James Hunt gets is a webpage on the Beeb and not a full hour on any of all the BBC's channels.
