Channel 4?
So F1 will be reduced to a twenty-minute edited highlights show shown two weeks after the race at about 5am on a Saturday morning then?
No thanks.
What the hell are the BBC thinking giving up the rights to F1, it's the only thing other than The Apprentice I watch, and the Apprentice isn't worth my yearly licence fee!

BBC want to kill F1 so they can save money to improve BBC4. Coulda sworn that was brought up in an earlier thread?

That was an article by the Sun.
Basically, there has been a freeze in TV License cost. So the BBC have ''proposed'' that a good way to save money would be to drop the F1 coverage (I could have told them that.. of course it saves money dropping F1!...).
BBC Four has nothing to do with this at all.

Re: Channel 4 express interest in getting the F1
The problem with the BBC is that they have become more interested in bean counting than quality of programming. They produced BBC4 to cover their asses and comply with their mandate. They have to show a certain amount of different types of programming and those eagle eyed viewers will probably have noticed that things like the nature programs and history programs that used to be on BBC 2 have migrated to BB4 to be replaced with endless repeats of Dads Army or old episodes of Have I Got News For You. It's becoming Dave! (Actually that's BBC3!)
The cynic in me despises the fact that the BBC is more worried about its costs and what the few people at the top want it to show (and the pressure groups) than showing/developing top quality programming and sports coverage. It's ok to show hour after hour of snooker (which usually results in the rescheduling of more popular programmes like Top Gear) but as soon as F1 overruns its swapped to BBC2 so the old dears can re-watch hours of Eastenders they've already seen in the week!!! Bless 'em.
F1 on BBC is a BAFTA Award winning show, it has ramped up the viewing figures hugely, the demographic has changed and the viewing patterns have improved to the point where people no longer just switch on for the start and the finish. OK so it's not the cheapest sport to air thanks to Mr Ecclestone but the payback in term of viewing figures must be massive.
