which steering mode is faster
i have a question maybe not so regards tuning but it definitely could effect steering.
i use a control pad and simulated steering but i have been told that normal steering is faster then standard steering when using a pad, could i have some opinions to verify this

Re: Tuning Help?!
From what I understand I would only use Simulated steering if I had a wheel.

Re: Tuning Help?!
I don't know about the speed differences for using sim steering on a pad, but i know with sim steering on you're more prone to having horrible tank slappers. I don't believe there's any game from using sim steering with the pad there certinately didn't seem to be any when i used it when i first got Forza 4 so i'd advise you to use normal steering for the pad.

Re: Tuning Help?!
I'm used to sim steering because most of the series here (if not all of them) require sim steering.

SIM Steering on a Pad is MUCH faster.
SIM steering on Xbox wheel is much faster
but SIM steering on a Fanatec is supposed to be awful, well thats what Fanatec said

Does it make that much of a difference though? I mean i can kinda see why you would in FWD cars, but in RWD cars surely it just makes for tankslappers galore?

Agreed - I get a lot less understeer with sim steering, and the car is more enjoyable to drive (feels so dead with normal steering). Normal steering is same as Forza 3's (which was dumbed down for the drifters), sim steering puts it back to more like Forza 2's steering
As for tankslappers in RWD... throttle control! With sim steering you can balance the car on the throttle and wind out the steering smoothly to power slide out the corner. Normal steering feels easier to drive because you can mash the throttle more and let the Xbox sort out the steering correction, but you're losing corner exit speed as it does it.

Re: Tuning Help?!
Yes if your too rough with it, BUT for the smoother drivers you can be much more precise with your steering inputs I used to be Appalling in RWD but now im half decent.
Its just a case of getting used to it,
I tried "normal steering" the other week and everything felt Numb and understeered like a branch going down a waterfall.

Re: Tuning Help?!
Yes it's exactly that Rusty - with normal steering the Xbox filters the countersteering, so when you let go of the stick exiting a corner, it will smoothly return it back to centre, or correct the oversteer, giving it a dull, lifeless feel. With sim steering you have to gently open out the steering as you exit the corner (just like you would with a wheel), over do it and the car snaps and spins.

Re: Tuning Help?!
Well it is a driving game after all
I hated what they did to the steering in FM3, took all the control away from the driver. Drove one lap on the FM4 demo and got the feeling back straight away.

Re: Tuning Help?!
Been playing around with this simulation steering malarky, i'm finding i am quicker than with it on the normal setting, but, when i get a big slide going it's so hard to bring back under control, and normally results in a big tankslapper ending in the wall!

Re: Tuning Help?!
Um, I have a Fanatec CSR Elite and I can't stand the 'Normal' steering mode. I have to use Simulation as it actually makes the car feel like its connected to the road and I can feel exactly what all the wheels are doing whilst steering and trying to get the power down. I have never understood why people on FM.net constantly go on about how bad the Sim steering is what a Fanatec wheel when I find it the complete opposite.

It must be driver preference but i did see an article By Fanatec saying that Sim Steering is only good for drifting, it was a while ago like,
I wonder if it was linked with the 900° steering lock though?
Ill try n find article when im on PC
Re: Tuning Help?!
Yeah I saw that as well, it was on Thomas's blog. After reading that I switched it off and just couldn't understand what they were talking about. That was when the wheel was first released though and it's had two firmware updates so far.

Does take some time to get used to, keep practicing! You're probably over-correcting the slide - with normal steering, if the car slides and you correct it, the Xbox applies filtering and determines how much correction to apply to straighten the car up. With sim steering your stick position controls the angle of your wheels without any filtering, so you have to be a lot smoother with your steering corrections!

Still sat waiting for fanatec or forza to decide who's got it wrong so I can use my GT2 again. No firmware updates at all yet an to say the least its pathetic on forza lol.

Re: Tuning Help?!
When tuning your tcc car, try to get 2 distinct tunes set up, a grip tune and a speed tune, one or the other will run quickly on each track you come across.
there are always tracks that the car will perform badly on, mine so far has been iberian, wow, the braking into the first corner with that bump just killed my lap times, first ever time in B lobby.
A usual any one needs help just gimme a shout.
