MSA TORA Classic TransAm - 04/07/12 - 8pm BST

i havent had a lag-out in IDK how long. enjoyed the racing. hope there's more TransAm racing to come (points to Louis). definitely was unfortunate. got spun @ the hairpin at Sebring on lap 1, then drove into the back of Zack into turn 17, didnt expect you to brake one braking marker sooner than i do. Laguna, tapped Chucky going into turn 3 i think it was, which gave me front aero damage, but i still managed a 1:34.695 (dirtied from Koenigsegg catching my draft). Sebring, god Turn10!!! fix the protruding barriers damnit. was nowhere near enough to clip the tire barrier on the inside of turn 5 (slow left hander), but i did anyways, giving me damage, then was stuck behind Duncan looking for a passing opportunity. some contact exiting the Kink a couple laps later, saved it, then lagged out exiting turn 14. :-(

That was some nice racing. Cars are enjoyable.

Race 1
I started 4th. Was 2nd after the start and got the lead in the last corner of lap 1. That was my race, I won with over 17 seconds.

Race 2
Started 2nd. That was not fun, so I let everyone pass me. Had some nice battles and finished 4th.

Race 3
Started 2nd again, but this time I didn't let everyone pass me. Had the lead after the second straight. Already had a comfortable gap to 2nd. Then I had some very bad corners and went off several times. Eventually I locked up my brakes and lost a lot of time. Came back in 6th. Worked my way up to 2nd pretty quick. Had a nice battle with Haburi in the end.

Fastest lap at every track! (but that might be due to the car)

Well, I think in general the cars worked pretty well and the racing was good. I think Road America really split us up and with quite a variety of driver skill in the lobby some people had a bit of a lonely race. When the cars were all together however like Laguna the racing was pretty incredible and all the cars seemed quite even. A few questionable moves I saw but I think the fact that the cars are big and heavy caught some people off guard.

I wouldn't mind seeing these return for a mini series in the future, maybe with a slight adjustment and possible set car list.

That was fun racing today. Sorry to the gents that I crashed into in turn 1 at sebring. I had been driving the mclaren in rivals prior to the race and the 1969 brakes caught me off guard. Had a good battle with flying Mikey the last race. Definitely just for fun for me.

I'm sorry I missed the race this evening lads. Something cropped up last minute and was forced out. But I hope you all enjoyed the event!

Apart from getting run into in the first corner in both the first 2 races, That was some jolly good fun.

In my practices around the 3 tracks, I think I had some good times. Managed. A low 2:18 @ Sebring, best my practice time @ Laguna, and had a 2:21.xxx or so @ RoadAm. I would really like to see a series of these! Maybe after TASCAR on saturdays??

I enjoyed race 1 and race 2 but at road america while catching flyn, I or flyn had abit of lag on the staight just after the slight right and it gave me yellow engine and red aero, by the time I pitted and done another lap I was 47 seconds behind the car infront so I gave up on that one

Now you might better understand my sig. Sorry about the lag though, as I was quite enjoying our three car battle with Max at the time.

My idea for adjustments would be to further be in the spirit of 1970 technology, as well as further equalize the cars.

Sport Tires/Transmission/Suspension/Brakes

As for car list, there were fewer different cars in the old Trans Am, as "fullsize" cars never raced in that series, and after 1965, there weren't any midsize cars either.

1965: Mustang, GTO
1968: Mustang (Shelby), Firebird, Barracuda
1969: Camaro, Firebird, Shelby
1970: Mustang, Camaro, Cougar,
1971: Mustang, Javelin, Cuda, Challenger
1973: Trans Am

As I recall the FM4 car list, that should about cover it. There's a chance that some of the car/year combos may be off though.

That was definitely a good battle of gain and loss. The turn 5/6 complex I'd lose lots of ground as my Plymouth waddled through that tight section, but then its' long legs would open up a gap from the carousel to Canada corner.

Had fun driving the beast, even though it quickly became apparent that my car choice was not the best one I could have made. Should have tried the Javelin or a Camaro, or a....

Sorry Haburi for the T1 tap at Laguna Seca. My part was just a little tap early on in the brake zone, then I was a cueball when I braked further and was shoved into you. At least you didn't get completely spun.

Thanks again Richy for giving this idea a shot. Seems most are in agreement that these cars are frustrating fun to drive.

From behind it looked like the two cars became one, then it fluttered and I saw you slam into the wall. Darn lag!

For all those fortunate enough not to start in the last two rows in today's events, here is the beast of which I speak...

Had every intention of running this but alas, a lightning storm hit the house and was knocking the power off 4-5 times in a short period of time. Didn't want to cause any problems so gave up the idea of racing today. Sounds like it was quite fun.

Race 1 - Battled up to fifth then lost focus from Diablo's lag. So i slid pack after a few messed up turns but then worked my Boss back into 5th.

Race 2 - Led from Lap 1 with Diablo and Haburi breathing down my neck. I didn't budge till a GTO was on my left side going down the front straight. He cleared me then left with only 2 laps left for me to finish second.

Race 3 - Stayed in the top 5 all race eventually working my way into a runaway 3rd with big boys battling all they way in. Fortunately i got some photos from race 3.

Gutted I had to go out now, this looks even more fun than the crazy modern trans am race we had last year!

I'll get all 3 races up on my storefront later if you want to have a watch.
