Re: RIP Paul Walker, Brian O'Connor
Bandit, even though I have never been a huge fan of the F&F franchise, that FB post got me all choked up as a Dad.
I've been reading on GRM's forums about the wreck. As real world sports car guys, they are familiar with the driver, and the car. One of the guys is a Porsche mechanic in LA and has worked on and driven that actual Carrera himself.
Seems that there may have been a hydraulic failure that disabled the steering and active suspension, at the same time sprayed uberslick hydraulic fluid on the right side tires. Even at 30 MPH, the car would have slid into whatever was in its path with no way out, but given the damage, it was at least twice that speed.
Given the proximity to the corners in the roads, chances are it impacted the pole at under 100MPH. And the total meltdown of the car could be attributed to the amount of carbon fiber in the car's structure.
According to the coroner's report, Paul Walker died of both burns and blunt force head trauma, so even if there was no fire, the chances that he would have lived out a normal life would have been very remote.
Terrible way to go.
