Post by F4H Hakkinen Tue 12 May 2015 - 13:08

In short, this game is fantastic. They really need to sort out this controller issue and settings issue. The amount of times it turned on a dime last night was infuriating. I reckon a speed sensitivity of around 75 and filtering of 45 is good but not good enough. Still annoying.

There are remnants of iRacing in the car behaviour and it's not easy to drive (when considering the bogus controller glitches) so I see lots of promise. Until this bug is fixed then it is pointless for me to play it. I'll just get annoyed and frustrated.

In terms of views, I have always been a 3rd person guy but the only way and the best way to play this is in the cockpit. It's gotta be the best view and thankfully so. What better way to enjoy your racing.

Anyone using a wheel and can offer feedback?

This is in Formula C, but once I've turned into a corner it seems to go full lock & I can't quite fine tune the steering to how I want. Counter-steering seems very heavy too, if I do mange to counter steer it gets stuck there for a split second or so which is enough to spit me off wide.

I love the actual driving. I'm re-doing the practices in career mode just to get the laps in. That one lap I do manage to nail is such a buzz.

How many hours has everyone got? I'm on 7.88 hours (7.08 career, 0.80 solo)

I've noticed this too on PS4 with a controller. I played with the sensitivity settings on the pad and it has improved things in that respect.

it's worth giving it a go.

i've noticed when changing the "Display Units", to Imperial, but the Tuning measurements stay metric regardless if its in Imperial or Metric. it's not a deal breaker in the least, but trying to figure out which one means is a lesson in itself (bar vs psi, n/mm vs ft/lbs, etc.)

i think i've found my sweet spot for the controller, i think. i can at least handle the Caper Monterey nicely w/o needing to turn TCS on.

This bug is really pissing me off at the moment. I can barely play it it's that frustrating.

I don't generally mind the low FPS at around 35 but to be honest it seems like the whole game was very poorly optimised for console. I mean, it's nice silky 60fps in very few places, Forza Horizon only plays at around the same as pCARS but that looks amazingly smooth and I don't think I can ever remember it having performance problems.

Yeah and on the XBone I've noticed lag in solo mode!!! Lag in solo mode, WTF Smile

The more you play, the more problems you find! Honestly this game is horrendous, graphics are amazing but overall this game is 5hit. Waaaay too many problems with this game for my liking, after all the years in development and delayed release dates because 'SMS want to insure the best possible product is put out to the consumer' these lengthy list of problems simply aren't acceptable.

The thing is most of these problems aren't hidden, they're nearly all very noticeable in normal game play so how in the world weren't they picked up on by all those big names who tested the game for so long. Makes me think SMS just got to a point and decided 'yeah that'll do, get it out there' and as for all these patches we're hearing about... still waiting!

My copy is now resigned to the shelf for now.

OK, so I really like this game. Yes, it has some glitches ( I had to re-start the game several times due to lock ups), and yes, it has a steep learning curve, but I can see the potential for this to be a great game! So far (for me anyway), the graphics are sweet and the physics are spot on! I started the career mode and what I see so far I really like. Very immersive and much better than Forza's career.

A couple questions though, hopefully someone can answer;

Will we get the ability to change the units to US? Though I haven't delved too much into the tuning, it is quite confusing.

Why can I not back out of free practice mode? The only way I can get out of it is to drive the wrong way in the pit and get disqualified. Am I missing something?

I have the controller setting close to what I like, but there's still a lot of room for improvement. Part of that is I don't fully understand what each setting does. Is there or will there be a full description for each setting?

Thanks for any help.

Change to US units? Instead from the internationally-agreed metric SI measurements? Are you mad??? Laughing

It's a British game so I'm not surprised that little detail had gone amiss haha.

Post by Freheliaz Tue 12 May 2015 - 20:25

Some explanation.

Can anyone explain to me what these settings do ?

Speed Sensitivity: 65

Controller Filtering Sensitivity: 50 ....What is filtered here ? This is a gamma curve change, it increases sensitivity across the travel, hence reducing this figure makes it easier to tap tap tap at high speed

RPM/Gear Display NO .... What does this have to do with the controller ? This is meant for wheels

Controller Input Mode: 3 ..... Are the modes default setups ? Yes, default deadzones/filtering options

Advanced: On  ...... Advanced what ? This allows you to change the settings below

Soft Steering Dampening: Off  ...... .?? Turn this on, it stops violent stick movements from registering quite so hard

Visual Wheel Filtering: Off  ...  No idea what this does This stops the wheel in cockpit mode twitching so quickly with the stick movement, it has no relation to the actual input

Opposite Lock Help: Off ...  No idea what this does Helps you with opposite lock, oddly enough. It helps by turning in to the direction of the slide slightly, and also helps you by reducing the steering input on the counter-steer. If you have this on, it might be affecting your ability to get through the chicanes

For sensitivity:
Project CARS. - Page 18 17258964989_939712903b_z
Graph traces:
Red - default ratio at 0 steering sensitivity
Blue - default ratio at 50 sensitivity (linear)
Green - default ratio at 100 sensitivity
Purple - your controller output

Surely just pause the game and then hit exit or return to pit box?

To be fair, this game is garbage in terms of gameplay until the patch comes out. I just feel like i'm wasting my time. No matter the settings I put in it just veers off the track and at times I can't keep it straight. Unfortunately, until this patch comes out, Pcars will be placed on the virtual shelf collecting virtual dust.

Patch has been sent for certifaction already Smile

Here's the post on official forum:
http://forum.projectcarsgame.com/showthread.php?24176-SEE-POST-27-INSIDE!-PATCH-INFO-HERE&p=903287&viewfull=1#post903287

Fixes include:
- Analogue stick will now use the full range (100%) not 40% as before.
- Impulse triggers enabled (feedback when braking etc)
- Fix for the opposite lock steering bug (steering suddenly steering in wrong direction)
- Fix to stop audio glitches under breaking

It appears all these issues are occurring on retail Xbox One consoles - dev kits used for testing are subtley different and these issues only became apparent on retail units

So just played for an hour and half in free practice mode.
And god that mode is nowhere near done.
You can't make a pitstop when in Free practice. Pushing the pit request button does nothing. And I clearly had mechanical damage. It even poped up.
Half of the options are locked/greyed out for me to select.
I can't change any of the options concerning laps etc. all I can change is weather and time. (aside from track and car obviously).

Controller feels weird, moving the car all of a sudden. But there is a patch underway.

Also can any one drive the Audi R18 Ultra on Monza and explain to me what the hell I'm hearing scratching/chirping from the car? It's like the asphalt is paved with gravel on top. It might be the bottom of the car just hitting the track but throughout the whole of the lap?

Has anyone noticed when in career mode and sitting in the garage that when you go into car setup, alter a setting or more, do a lap, return to garage, go back into car setup to make further alterations that the game isn't saving the previous alterations made to the car setup just a lap prior?

It just gets worse!!!
