Re: WRC 2010
Spot on there Matt. It does remind me of the first SBK game in that respect

Re: WRC 2010
Only gave it a quick go with a controller. Hated it.
Will need to sit down with it and use the wheel to get a true idea of what its like, but so far not impressed.

Re: WRC 2010
Its a difficult game, took me a long time to actually finish a stage.

Re: WRC 2010
My style of shifting the weight on the brakes that I developed with RBR seems to transfer ok.
There's more understeer than I expected. The weight of the cars seems quite good. I'm going to have another go in the morning.
Enjoying driving through fences though

Re: WRC 2010
I've just tried the demo and I think it is absolutely rubbish.
The graphics are rubbish. The handling is rubbish. The pace-notes are rubbish. The environments are rubbish. The car set-ups are rubbish......
Lets just say it's rubbish and I don't like it. I won't be wasting my money on this game.

Kinda like how I feel about Forza lol
The pacenotes are said far too late to be useful, for example, you will be entering in a corner, THEN he says ''keep in''. Sometimes its too late...
Graphics are fine, framerate is 30fps though, which is a bummer.
Handling is great to me. Someone is finding it a bit too hard I reckon..

Re: WRC 2010
Oh! Did I mention that the co-driver is rubbish as well? lol
The problem is that the colour of the game isn't that bright. It looks a bit dark and miserable. It reminds me a bit of Race Pro.
Also, the pace notes are wrong becuase there was some 3rd gear corners that I could take in fourth or fifth, and the hairpins are not even hairpins. For example, on the Jordan rally stage, there was a pacenote at the beginning of the stage which was "harpin right long" where instead it should have been "long 4 right".
The engine noises wasn't that pleasant either. I was a bit wrong about the handling. Its good with the wheel but it's not that great. You end up crashing all the time and it'll take you about 4 or 5 thousand attempts to get it right.
I'm still not convinced by the game to be honest. But we'll see what the gaming magazines think about it.

Re: WRC 2010
a 3 left or 4 right or whatever does not necisarily mean it has to be taken in that gear. Quite obvious when you see that the Focus has a 5 speed box.
1=slow------------>6=very fast
Some co-drivers use a 1->10 system, some use a 6->1 system, with 1 being the fastest. Some use slow's, medium's and fast's.

Re: WRC 2010
I agree that the Pacenotes kinda suck (mistimed and not the best choices in words ect)
Also not a big fan of the Handeling, The understeer is horrific! (especially in the Focus) My Skoda Turns in better than that at speed on Gravel and thats not a £500,000 specificly designed rally car on Gravel Tires!
I reckon unless the real version delivers a step up from this Dirt3 could deliver a major death blow to this franchise....

Re: WRC 2010
Yeah, but have you driven your Skoda on loose pea/sandy gravel at 120kph in Jordan?

Re: WRC 2010
Hey guys. Vid with no sound on a not so good run (running 3 secs quicker already!!)
The TV and Xbox Display settings make a huge difference to this games graphics. Since this vid I've played with both settings and the graphics may not look as polished but they aren't half detailed and pretty alright. Its the handling that makes this demo for me. When I first stuck it in I thought!! WTF!! This is S...!! But I stuck at it and now I love it and will defo get a copy ;O)
Try not to think Dirt / Grid / PGR / NFS handling physics here guys. You have to slow for corners and set the car up way before to gain the best cornering. Flick-ability with weight transference and power / throttle balancing are rewarded massively.

Re: WRC 2010
slider if you try mucking about with the settings.Think the default ones are horrible.I changed the front and rear diff lock also the centre split. After that the car handles amazing.
Personally i think the feeling is good the graphics do need work but the basics are there for a great game. The jordan stage is great fun with the long sweeping coners
btw the sweedish flick works great just like in RBR

Re: WRC 2010
Just played the demo, I quite like it. Yeah, the graphics are nothing to shout about, but it was fun, felt like playing the original Colin McRae Rally game on the PS1 again (graphics weren't far off that either!)
I'd get it, but not at launch. With Halo Reach, Medal Of Honor Tier One, Call Of Duty Black Ops and, of course, F1 2010 all on the list just now, I can see this being a bargain pick-up after xmas.

A perfect example of how we take the amazing standard of physics in racing games on consoles these days (relative to what they were 5 years ago) for granted.
Remember when TOCA Race Driver 3 was supposed to be really realistic? Label those physics realistic today and you would be slaughtered!
I played CMR2 not that long ago, and for a game that was the most realistic rally game of its time, it is not even anywhere near, dare I say it, DIRT.
Just pointing this out Scot, not being critical

Re: WRC 2010
Dirt 2 had excellent physics. The tyre model was however exageratted to make it slightly more sideways.

I didn't mean the physics or graphics or anything. I meant the general presentation and feel of the game was closer to CMR1 than any other game I have played. It was the first thing that came to mind when I started playing.

Re: WRC 2010
Ah, cool
Infact, the incar view on the Focus, right up at the windscreen, was a bit like CMR3. I know what you mean now.

Re: WRC 2010
I've been playing it alot and I totally love the gameplay, sure there are many things that are below xbox 360 standards (graphics, sounds, framerate) not to mention the co-driver insulting you in the middle of the stage or giving wrong indications (wish the pace notes could be reworked) but the gameplay does it for me.
I don't know if it's any realistic (i never thought wrc cars would understeer that much) but the gameplay is challenging and makes you work hard to get a good time.

Re: WRC 2010
I'm going to embarrass myself here by saying that I don't think it's rubbish. I've played it a bit more and it's damm addictive. You can sort the understeer problems with either the set-up or if you use the wheel, a bit of left foot braking.
I still would like to punch the co-driver if I could the SMERKY GIT! lol

He ain't no nicky grist thats for certain but I live with it. Not bad for a first attempt
Re: WRC 2010
I'll be downloading this later methinks.
I didn't realise Richard Burns Rally was released for the Xbox too...if I don't get along with WRC I may rekindle my love/hate relationship with RBR.
