TORA Rallycross Championship - Guaging Interest
Hi All
Have been experimenting with a Rallycross idea and wanted to see what peoples thoughts were. Here's what I have so far.
Eight Cars:
2007 Peugeot 207 S2000, R3 747;
2013 Ford Focus ST, R3 708;
2008 Saab 9-3 Turbo X, R3 736;
2009 Volvo C30 R-Design, R3 738;
2011 VW Polo GTI, R3 744;
2009 VW Scirocco GT, R3 746;
2010 Mitsubishi Colt Ralliart, R3 747;
2009 Ford Fiesta Zetec S, R3 760.
Having taken them round Tsukuba Short untuned all are withing 0.75s of each other. Tuning would be allowed.
What I envisage is initially a one-off meeting at Tsukuba (short or full whichever is preferable). Depending on numbers entered it could need to be run over a few weeks with this format.
If, say, 48 people entered: Qualifying would take place. Drivers would then be split into 12 groups of 4. 4 lobbies would be required, each with 3 groups. The groupings within each lobby would be decided by a number generator. In each lobby, each group would compete against 1 other at a time in a round-robin style.
The fastest driver in qualifying in that race gets to choose whether to line up on the inside or outside. The rest of the grid form up from there. The grid will drive round to place up and line up side-by-side on the start line. The host will then call out a start time and the race will begin. In this stage, the race length will be 5 laps (+1 formation). If the track is not wide enough for 8 cars, the first 4 or 6 will line up on the start and finish line, with the remainder in a line starting 25ft back from the first line.
The winner of each heat will score 10 points, 2nd 8, 3rd 6, 4th 5 and so on to 8th 1. At the end of the round-robin lobby contest, the points would be added, and the Top 24 from across the 4 lobbies would progress. In the event of a tie-break, the person with the best finish will take priority. If there is still no winner then a race-off can be called.
The next stage would see the 24 remaining drivers split into 4 semi-finals of 6 drivers. From each Semi 2 will advance to the final. Semi final race distances will be 6 laps (+1 for formation). Points will be issued in the same way as the heats.
For the final, the person with the most points will start 1st and choose which position of the track they wish to start. The final race distance will be 8 laps (+1 formation).
Let me know if you are interested if this were to be a race series.

Re: TORA Rallycross Championship - Guaging Interest
I'd definitely be up for this, superb idea. Have seen Rallycross do quite well on other websites.
I assume we would be omitting the joker lap given Forza's very sticky grass and off track situation.

Re: TORA Rallycross Championship - Guaging Interest
I was trying something like this but with a joker lap but at the top gear track but never got round to it. I would love to take part and I feel Slider S15 would also
Re: TORA Rallycross Championship - Guaging Interest
I'm interested as hell! Perhaps if we included the Top Gear Test Track we could have at least one round with the Joker Lap!

Re: TORA Rallycross Championship - Guaging Interest
Or... at the tracks that can't include joker laps, due to sticky grass, then maybe make a pitstop compulsory to replace the joker lap.
Just an idea.
Just an idea.

Re: TORA Rallycross Championship - Guaging Interest
UPDATE
The test event will be held at Tsukuba on the full layout. We have been able to come up with a joker lap at several different circuits to create a full championship should the interest be there.
For Tsukuba, the red line is the main lap while the blue line is the Joker lap
We also have Top Gear East, Catalunya National, Suzuka West and Indianapolis GP.

Re: TORA Rallycross Championship - Guaging Interest
I've been working on my own Idea for bringing Rallycross to TORA aswell and it's good to see we've had ALOT of the same ideas!
I'd be up for this, also been testing some cars (albeit at a different Pi level and also all close) Have another idea you might be interested in for this too...)
