Never got a good lap in, but definitely know the Aston will go much faster once I start tuning the car and controller.
The Lag is Real bad. Would be nice if people didn't join and leave and join and leave and join and leave and join and leave and join and leave, it creates real bad lag for the drivers!!

Will be posting letting everyone here know when we are having our teams testing sessions for anyone interested in joining
Re: Practice Event 14/05/15 7pm BST
the lag last night was the worst i've ever seen, the game is good at highlighting those in the lobby with a weak connection, those people NEED to address this or do the right thing and not race... they are spoiling it for everyone else!
it's not hard to check your NAT settings, and there is plenty of help online in setting up various routers, i've recently switched ISPs and had to make a lot of changes to the port forwarding on mine to get my NAT open - and until this was sorted i wouldn't dream of playing online - everyone else needs to take the same attitude!

I completely agree with you there.
It's not that that hard to open your NAT but for the people that are struggling with it there are plenty people that can help if you ask (me being one of them if needed).
Not sure if there is already a NAT help section on the TORA forums but it wouldn't be a bad idea to set one up if not for people to post that they need help including their router make/model and ISP.
My connection goes from xbox - router2 - powerline adapter - primary router - internet and have an open NAT so if you only have xbox - primary router you have no excuses lol

To be fair it's not peoples NATs settings, I've done plenty of sessions and its whenever people are joining and leaving that creates the real lag/frame rate issues!

that was causing the lag... but the underlying reason they kept dropping out has to be poor connection

NAT settings definitely make a difference.
Had a lobby last night where someone hadn't opened their nat and we have an insane amount of trouble. That person left and everything worked fine

Just to explain a little on NAT which may help people understand why it is important.
NAT (Network Address Translation) converts your IP address into an address that is usable outside your home network (the router's internet socket IP address). If you look at your network address it will most likely be in the 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.254 range. As you can see this is only 254 different address's and there are a hell of a lot more devices on the internet than that.
When you send network traffic out it will be fine. You send data from the xbox's network socket to the router, the router then forwards it to the internet. It's when it comes back that it can struggle because your address was translated before entering the internet. When you receive a reply on the routers internet socket how does the router know which device it is intended for? Thats where port forwarding comes in.
By using ports you can split your address further and different applications use different ports. When a reply comes back and reaches the router it will forward the request back to the device based on which port it arrived on. So replies on the xbox port will be forwarded to the xbox socket.
This is how it should work and uPnP (universal plug and play) should automatically setup the port forwarding but in some instances you need to manually configure this to open up your NAT. So if you haven't setup a port forward when the reply reaches the router it won't know where to send it so could fail meaning lag or not connecting at all. This is where your NAT then shows as strict instead of open.
So as you can see if you haven't setup your router properly you are asking for connection issues.
