MMOW-Samsung Racing - RaceTechMag TEC Car Launch - Round 3
Yesterday we unveiled the official images of our four updated entries into the TORA Endurance Championship powered by Race Tech Magazine on Forza Motorsport 6, and we received a great deal of interest in the cars! I decided to take the time to put together a summary of each of the entries with the list of confirmed drivers, so here goes...
MMOW-Samsung Wearegrip - #52 Porsche 919 Hybrid
The newest car to the MMOW-Samsung roster, this little piggy will be piloted by Rob Thomas, Nick Carrol, Nate Detwiler and Stephen Cumming, and will be the first race for the Porsche 919 in TEC history. Powered by vee-four turbo wih hybrid assistance and power to all four wheels, this car is certainly no slouch.
The livery, devised by Callum Hawkins, is a replica of Anatole Lapin's 'Pink Pig' livery first raced on the 917/20 in 1971. It as spectacle at Le Mans in its heyday, and hopefully the 'Truffle Hunter'' will perform just as well here at Watkins Glen.
MMOW-Smasung Denso - #124 Toyota TS040 Hybrid
Ah, the Toyota TS040. First entered by Mark Whitelegge, Mitch Oakley, Danny Taylor and Chris Oxford at Sebring, the car took sixth after twelve hours of racing, starting from the back of the grid. This result has boosted the team, and they come prepared for the Glen with some alterations to the livery.
Designed by Mark Whitelegge, the car is his own take on the real life Toyota Gazoo Racing car's livery, Featuring the tradition black, white and red colours seen on Gazoo's cars, but this isn't the first homage on our list...
MMOW-Samsung Galaxy - #497 Nissan NISMO GT-R LM
Driven by Will Whitchurch, Callum Hawkins and Lewis Scaife, this front-engined, front-wheel-driven and without a functioning hybrid system, the Nissan is the last car you'd expect to see toppling the timing sheets. However, thanks to its enormous amount of power being produced by the twin-turbo vee-six and some clever set-up work, the Calsonic-coloured beat managed just that, taking pole at Daytona with a 1:28.963 and finishing fifth after twenty-four hours. Arriving at Sebring in a classic red-and-black scheme, the car achieved second on the grid, another great qualifying, but fell to eleventh in the race after fuel problems.
Another design by Callum Hawkins, this one pays tribute to the Nissan R390's blue and white fading chequers, a bright livery to bring out the best in the Nissan on what will hopefully be a good weekend in the state of New York.
MMOW-Samsung SUHDTV - #519 Porsche 911 GT3-RSR
Our second new entry to he TEC, the SUHDTV team, consisting of Michael Eyles and Brendon Leigh, has completed all rounds thus far in a Corvette C7.R, before receiving the delivery of this 997-spec Porsche GT race car. Having not seen action since the 2013 series, the Porsche 911 has been made readily available for all teams once more as we head to round 3.
Proposed by Michael Eyles and designed by Callum Hawkins, this livery is one that inspired the team to become what it is today; Red Line Racing's Samsung SUHDTV Carrera Cup car, a team that has won the Porsche UK series before with Michael Meadows at the wheel of the Samsung racer. Being a Samsung Porsche, this combination's past bodes well for the team!
Well well, that's about all I can manage, I look forward to seeing you all out on track next month. Best of Luck!
