F1 - 2010 budget cap ruling.
Im presuming this discussion has been started elsewhere, but as im sure most of u are know aware, Ferrari's appeal against the 40 million budget proposed by the FIA, didnt go well today.
Its not looking good in my opinion. Im really suprised of the result because in the past 'what ferrari wants, ferrari get'.
any thoughts guys?

Re: F1 - 2010 budget cap ruling.
We've been discussing it on MWM.
If Ferrari pull the plug, its not the end for F1. It can live without Ferrari, but without an obvious outlet (other than LMP1) I feel the Scuderia would suffer more out of it.

Re: F1 - 2010 budget cap ruling.
other teams like renault have stated that they would no longer be interested in participating either. If they lose a few teams, the series will be dead in my opinion.

nothing lasts for ever, and to be honest, I would rather see it die before it ruins the worlds magnificent circuits.

Re: F1 - 2010 budget cap ruling.
fair enough guys, but we should keep f1 the same tbh - its been running fine (sort of) for a couple of decades now - why change it
Re: F1 - 2010 budget cap ruling.
in the ideal world, it wouldnt be touched, but unfortunately we have the evil of money and greed in our world.

Ah yes, the orgy fund. Max will be saving up for a Ralf Schumacher themed one surely.

Leave Max [Bad language is not tolerated - Mod Team] alone. The guy is a visionary.

Re: F1 - 2010 budget cap ruling.
I think the main issue with this debate is the two tier rules rather than the money itself.
£40m is a HUGE drop for some of the teams but not very much for some of the independants.
The fact is those smaller teams whose business IS F1 will remain and will take advantage of the new system.
The bigger teams who are perfectly able to diversify are the ones kicking off.
I would be suprised if such 'clever' people haven't considered the fact that they can simply 're-allocate' money and staff into other projects. The FIA isn't asking them to actually lay people off or cut their overall budgets. It will affect their F1 activities only.
So...... for the likes of Toyota, Ferrari and McLaren. The options are:
1) Continue moaning and push the sport deeped into crisis.
2) Accept the new rules and continue in F1 only, laying off staff and cutting their budgets substantially.
3) Transfer skilled staff into pre-existing or up coming projects to prevent redundancy costs etc.
Option 3 won't cost anymore money, and with the drop in F1 expenditure, there would be ALOT of excess funding in the 'kitties' to cover this.
A team could run two projects (F1 plus another) for the same as F1 has cost this year potentially.
You can't tell me thats not a good idea?
