TORA 10 Hours of Road Atlanta - Extra Life

TORA has decided to partner with Extra Life for the 10 Hours of Road Atlanta. Extra Life is a gaming charity that fundraisers for the Children's Hope Miracle Network of hospitals CHMN provide life saving care for underprivileged kids, and partner with teaching hospitals to pioneer new treatments and give the next generations of medical professionals the tools they need to save lives.

100% of donations go to directly fund procedures for children in desperate need, all across the United States.

Participation in the fund raiser is not mandatory to compete, but we would be very grateful to get as many participants involved as we can.

On a personal note, I have direct experience with CHMN. When I was 12, I was hospitalized with Lyme Disease, first at St. Peter's, then at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Lyme is normally something you can shake off with a round of antibiotics, but I had potentially life threatening cardiac complications, resulting in nearly 3 weeks of hospitalization on IV and oral antibiotics and months of cardiac monitoring after I was discharged. The staff were incredibly kind, and they did a fantastic job of explaining to me, at the time 12, exactly what was happening, what they were going to do to fix me, and how it all worked. For that, I will be forever grateful.

The cost of all this? After insurance, my family had nearly $100,000 in bills. Fortunately we were in a position to pay most of it (after CHOP agreed to a massive reduction for a one-time payment), but many families are not in such a position. That's where Extra Life comes in, to help families not go into financial ruin to save their child's health. No parent should have to make that most impossible of choices, and Extra Life is a way we can stop that from happening while playing the games we all love with our friends.
