Former England, Newcastle United and Ipswich Town manager Sir Bobby Robson has died at the age of 76.
Robson was one of the most respected and well-liked figures in the football world and his managerial career took in further spells with PSV Eindhoven, Sporting Lisbon, Porto and Barcelona.
He had been battling cancer for the past 15 years and set up the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation to help with the earlier detection and treatment of the disease.
Robson's final public appearance came at St James' Park on Sunday when tens of thousands of fans turned out on Tyneside to support a charity match to raise funds for his foundation.
Robson was capped 20 times by his country and was a hugely-popular player during his time with Fulham and West Bromwich Albion.
He took England to the brink of the World Cup final during Italia 90 only to see their hopes dashed in a dramatic penalty shoot-out defeat by West Germany in the semi-finals.


The World has lost a legend today and im sure everyone would agree with me. He gave alot to the game and i regard him as the best English manager we have ever had. A true great who will be missed by all.

R.I.P Bobby, you will always be remembed as one of footballs greatest stars. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Crying or Very sad

I saw this on the news earlier. Now I'm not much of a football person but even I can appreciate the amazing job he did and what a thouroughly nice bloke he appeared to be.

He was a legend in the game and he done some unbeliveable things like getting Newcastle in the Champions League. RIP Sir Bobby Robson Sad

Such a big loss to the sport he was a fantastic manager and he will be missed Sad wierd as well as at St. James Park there was a memorial match a few weeks ago for him

Very sad news indeed, he really had been through the wars health wise as well. He was a true gentleman a class act, and no joke intended very much a dying breed in football.
