An experiment in the Hot Seat!!
Would anybody be interested in trying a little experiment with me?
I had an idea for a slight twist on the endurance racing format that TORA currently uses, and would be interested to see if it could actually work, and perhaps even be implemented in some way in a future championship or one-off special event.
The idea is simply this:
Teams would run two or three drivers per car (depending on what gets decided for the rules).
There would be a qualifying session as usual, then three races run back-to-back.
The grid for Race 1 would be formed according to qualifying position, and driven by "Driver 1".
Race 2 would then form up according to the finishing positions in Race 1 with "Driver 2" driving, and similarly Race 3 starting with the finishing positions of Race 2 with "Driver 3" driving (if applicable).
The only scored result would be that of the final race in the round (Race 2/3).
This would then simulate driver-handover during an endurance race.
For a full event I'd propose 30min stints so that the other drivers aren't hanging about for ages, with pre-arranged lobby formation times as usual, though this time staggered (i.e. Driver 1's arrive 19:45 for 20:00 start, Driver 2's at 20:15 for 20:30 start etc).
I'd not really thought about it until just now, but potentially, we could set roll-offs for Race 2 and 3 that pertain to the finishing times of the previous race so that the cars remain spaced as they were, with the second and third drivers needing to claw-back or maintain gaps!!
To test this out, we could perhaps run a couple of 5/10 lap stints to see how it goes?
Let me know what you think, and whether you would like to test this out with me. At the very least it's more track time for testing our LMS cars!

Re: An experiment in the Hot Seat!!
i had a similar idea myself sometime back, but didnt think it would be popular so kept it to myself and some other members. im glad to see someone has taken up the concept. but we would need to calcluate a means of gaps between drivers at the start of a 'stint'.
Re: An experiment in the Hot Seat!!
me and racelegend wud be intrested in taking part in this experiment. i have taken it apon myself to enter racelelgend into this as i personally feel hes a nob lol so were in

lol OK Tobes. Cool.
With regards to roll off time for the latter rounds, I would expect that people could be trusted to "go" on a time given to them in the lobby (using the race timer). Those times would be calculated from the end race times of the previous round.

Re: An experiment in the Hot Seat!!
When interest seems to peak, and we arrange it, but I'm thinking "soon".
Re: An experiment in the Hot Seat!!
another way to do it is to have two or three parallel lobbies, people doing the first stint do their amount of laps, and in the other lobbies, their team mates are lined up on the start finnish straight. Each team will be in a party, so whenever you cross the line to end your stint you can tell them to go. This means you can get the right distances.

Re: An experiment in the Hot Seat!!
in an ideal world when you could have everyone participating in the same party then great, but i think it would be a logistical nightmare and impossible to govern. Aeros idea sounds interesting - sounds like a relay race!

Re: An experiment in the Hot Seat!!
How would you simulate the advantage the quicker driver hands the slower?
Say for the Pro handing over to the Gent driver?

Presumably the quicker driver would have built up a lead, which is then passed onto the next driver at the start of the next stint. If there isn't one, and the slower driver drops back, well that's just hard luck, leaving the third stint driver (assuming the middle stint is the one being driven by the slower driver) needing to (try to) mount an impressive comeback!!
I think this format would make for some really exciting races, as it's quite possible that "fast" drivers will indeed be starting stints "out of position"/with a disadvantage.
Re: An experiment in the Hot Seat!!
Oh, and FULL DAMAGE will be on! I believe "incidents" should have a consequence, and it will also make for more exciting stints!

id be up 4 trying this!

Re: An experiment in the Hot Seat!!
toby: a - not a nob thank you very much, b - i am interested in running anyway thanks.
Re: An experiment in the Hot Seat!!
Agree with the damage being on. Is this not the case with the Championships? (New to this)
I like the idea of having to chose the rotation of the drivers, what would you do? Stick the slower driver in first, then have two clear stints of the faster drivers or slower driver in the middle? Not much use putting him in at the end.
Right back to reading about the ORECA 908!!

As far as I'm aware, it's going to be on cosmetic (to placate those who are fearful of being wrecked in turn 1. My view won't change anything, but I think that incidents are all part of racing - deal with it!). Of course, that also means that fuel and tire wear are not on (they only work on simulation damage) so pit stops will probably have to be mandated drive-throughs instead (you don't actually stop when sim damage isn't on either!).

Totally agree, and really, this is how I'm hoping using this "relay" method as Kris put it (perfect analogy!!), will spice things up strategically.
I'm in the process of moving house over the next couple of days (yay moving in the snow - NOT!) so it'll likely be sometime next week that we give this a bash.

Actually, its because of lag crashes, but the damage rule is currently being looked at
