Re: Monster Wold Rally team launched
I see it as a publicity stunt, Block isnt too good of a rally driver, but he is still a helluva driver
Re: Monster Wold Rally team launched
hmmm I thought this was known for ages! Kimi in the Citreon with Block in the Ford. Very very very nice helmet cam video though..

Re: Monster Wold Rally team launched
well i have only seen him on x games would prefer Travis Pastrana
Re: Monster Wold Rally team launched
This is great news for WRC though, they have Kimi Raikonen and Ken Block, two very recognisable names to your casual F1 fan and casual internet browser I mentioned that Ken Block was doing the WRC in school a few months back, and this caused major interest among some mates!
I am very excited about the WRC this year, the most excited ive been about the WRC since the Mcrae v. Burns showdown at the 2001 Rally GB, or the final live stage at Margam Park in 2003 on Channel 4 with Loeb taking on Solberg for the championship. And with more serious coverage on Dave next year, every sunday, it should be very easy to follow this year. All it needs now is the Monte back, and to broadcast more live stages like the IRC does.

Re: Monster Wold Rally team launched
Pastrana was my rally idol before, now hes just my motorsports idol all together, the man can do anything
Re: Monster Wold Rally team launched
very true- Travis Pastrana, who is a better rally driver and has been with the sport longer is probably as (or maybe even less) famous then Ken BlockXTI Nightrider wrote:I see it as a publicity stunt, Block isnt too good of a rally driver, but he is still a helluva driver
what I really want to see is more factory teams, like in 1985 there had to be about 8 different manufacturers with factory team in WRC instead of the 2 now...

Re: Monster Wold Rally team launched
Yeah but i'd rather see spectacular, mega-quick turbo monsters run by privateers rather than 4wd touring car type cars run by a bunch of manufacturers who will pull out after they dont win.

we had that... it was called Group B.... People died.... It should probably be avoided....
Re: Monster Wold Rally team launched
yeah they died because they didn't control the crowds and the cars were terribly unsafe. Group B could definitely exist today.

Re: Monster Wold Rally team launched
i would love to see group b but must disagree, every racing genration gets quicker, the speeds would be at an insane level for tight rally stages and it would basically be a deattrap for the drivers
Re: Monster Wold Rally team launched
i would love too see them do a lap of silverstone as a stage!!!

and I'm sure people said the same thing when group B rally was first announced. Along with getting a whole lot faster, they without doubt are a whole lot safer. Remember Latvala's 17 rolls down that very steep hill in Portugal? The driver/co driver deaths (i think there were 4) in group B had a lot to do with poorly protected fuel tanks, like Henri Toivonen's S4's fuel tank, conveniently placed right under the driver's seat and made of aluminum. So a current Group B type car car would obviously have a well protected fuel tank, strong roll cages and most importantly, would handle 10x better.

Re: Monster Wold Rally team launched
Henri Toivonen's accident haunts me when I think of Group B.
The WRC cars of today are just as fast as Group B cars, they may not have as much power, but they have vastly improved aero, they probably produce alot of downforce from these massive wings that Ford introduced in '03, and the cars are putting out well over 350hp! I wish they would use ERC style Rallycross cars restricted to 415hp like the Fiesta competing in the Rally America National Series this year. Now that is what rallycars are all about.
Rallying aint worth watching if you dont love watching the cars, because theres nothing else to watch!
