BrennGP tie up with Subaru for TORA Rally Championship works entry
BrennGP will be running an ex-Prodrive Subaru Impreza as part of a works-sponsored entry into this year's TORA Rally Championship. The Impreza was purchased outright by ckBrenneke's team with the intent of running him in as many of the TRC events as are permitted by his busy working schedule. This news follows the last report from the team, which saw their Historic Rally entry canned.
"The HRC just didn't offer the experience and playing field I was expecting," ckBrenneke said. "Which is a pity as the car [a FIAT 131 Abarth] was wonderful to drive. Still, it didn't mean we were totally deterred from a rally based entry with TORA, as the only other event we have on the calendar is the fourth running of the TORA Touring Cars. As such, we entered into talks with Prodrive to purchase one of their ex-WRC Imprezas, and this lead to Subaru dipping their toe back in the rallying water. The money required to run a TORA based entry is significantly less than what it costs to run in the WRC, or even the IRC."
While BrennGP is running ckBrenneke in the TRC, and the Mugen Motorsport entry to the TCC, ckBrenneke will still be busy with other championships. He has signed up to drive with fellow Scots IanMR and Richy59 in M&M Racing's entry to the TORA Mini Challenge, and in the Touring Car Masters with Audi Sport Martini alongside Mugen team-mates AJzero and jenson09.

BrennGP tie up with Subaru for TORA Rally Championship works entry :: Comments
BrennGP have announced plans to run two Subaru Impreza works cars under the Subaru World Rally Team name in this season's TORA Rally Championship. This follows the appearance of ckBrenneke's Impreza at the recent media day, where the car recieved it's first proper shakedown. However, the big news is the re-uniting of garyp3398 and ckBrenneke as the two drivers, a pairing that originally began two years ago as the Team Halfords entry into the TORA Touring Car Championship's first season.
With funding now in place, both garyp3398 and ckBrenneke plan to run the Impreza WRC cars at as many meetings as permitted. While tuning experts GRP Motorsport have downsized since their withdrawal from TORA TCC, already they've had strong input on the direction of the rally car's development in the hands of BrennGP.
"The media day highlighted a few flaws in our preparation," ckBrenneke said, " primarily around our gearing and damper settings. Since bringing garyp3398 on board, he and his team at GRP have worked with us at BrennGP to produce a much quicker, looser car. I'm very excited about getting this car out at Montserrat."
The tie-up will also see the pair enter the Historic Rally Championship in a pair of Lancia Delta Integrale's built from the ground up by GRP. "I had the 131 Abarth out at the media day, but it really didn't suit the competition. There's no way a rear-wheel drive car is going to compete with the AWD cars we are up against. Plus, the diff was set up all wrong which meant we spent most of the test facing the wrong way."
While the Lancia's have yet to break cover from GRP's new headquarters in Irvine, Scotland, the ex-WRC Impreza's recieved another shakedown from the former Halfords pair at Kames, Muirkirk. Times round the small testing track were significantly improved from those seen previously, bouying the team's confidence for the opening rally of the season.

With the recent announcement that BrennGP would no longer be developing its maligned Lancia Delta Integrale for the TORA Historic Rally Championship, there have been concerns that the team would be following a similar route for the TRC effort.
However, team owner ckBrenneke has moved to dispel those concerns. "Firstly, I think Subaru would be pretty annoyed if we were to pull the plug on our TRC campaign at such an early stage. They've put a lot of faith and support into this, and I am determined we are going to repay that.
"The Rally Italia saw us pick up some points, yes, but more importantly, in pointed the way in our development of the car. The stages here are very twisty, and we suffered from terrible understeer and a general lack of pace. We know now what we need to do to the car to improve it, and we will continue to work on this."
The team fly back to the UK, ahead of both drivers appearing for M&M Racing in the Le Mans Series event at Suzuka. ckBrenneke will then be heading to the US for the third round of the Touring Car Masters with Audi Sport Martini. Last week, he picked up a second place result in the Mini Challenge for M&M, taking a 1-2 with race winner and team boss Richy59.
With such a hectic schedule coupled with both drivers work commitments outside of TORA, will they find time to work out the kinks in the Impreza?
"We can but try," ckBrenneke replied. "Yes, we have some big commitments, but we're hoping to give the Subarus some TLC after the TCM event this week coming. Lets hope we have a quicker, looser car for Japan."
