Race car driver diets Empty Race car driver diets

Since all of you may know, racing takes alot of you of and requires the utmost fitness(of yourself) to be rightly competitive(especially in karting).
To stay fit and in shape most drivers have a diet either during a race weekend or all of the time to stay healthy in tip top shape.
I can say that i diet alot of the time by drinking alot of fruit juices and water and eating alot of greens(salads, fruits etc.). But i also eat my cultural food(i'm Austrian, i dont eat what most americans eat =D ) that fits into my diet. I have to diet to stay in shape. Considering that im about 6 foot and about 160 lbs.
Now these questions are aimed more at the actual race car drivers than others, but still feel free to answer.
Do you guys have racing diets(or regular diets) to keep in shape or to keep fit for racing or anything else? If so, what does in consist of? Is it more for energy or just to eat healthy?

I eat a ton of protien and carbs on race weekends. ill down two or three burgers on any given race day. and the night before i pack in carbs with pastas. i try to avoid energy drinks due to dehydration, but ill drink 5 or 6 bottles of water on a race day

For triathlons my diet is a healthy balance with extra protein to enable better muscle growth and repair with a regular exercise training program.

On top of that the main tool is calorie counting. Calorie counting helps me to keep in check the amount of food consumed taking into account how many calories I burn with training. (I start again after a 6 month break due to injury at the beginning of Feb).

As Jenson Button has proved Triathlons are a good driver training method as not about gaining bulk while gaining strength and stamina.

I'm planning on doing the Blenheim Super Sprint and London Olympic this year!! I won't be anywhere near Jenson Button's time I can assure you ;O( lol Although I only have 20 minutes to make up on the 40Km cycle section to beat him on that bit!! Bob hope and no hope then ;O)

the lighter you are in a kart the faster on the striaghts, if you carry a lil bit more weight you ll be better on the brakes but a tat slower on the striaght bits. could move your diet about for different tracks.

When I ws racing it was runs and cycling as often as possible. But I was still the only guy in the team that didn't need lead adding to the damn kart!

I've let myself go abit in the interim but with more competition on the horizon I'm stepping up the fitness again and will be eating alot more healthily.
I have quite a bit of rice/pasta that kind of thing but also veg and good well cooked meats when I can.
I never race on a full stomache, usually I'll have abit of something for energy and awakeness but mainly its fluids on race days.

wouldnt inertia would cause you to take longer to slow down?

I dont race obviously, but I run a few times a week and lift to get in shape and gain some muscle for spring track (im a sprinter). And of course I cant eat like a pig before track, not because of cramps (because I never get them) but I hate running and having the urge to take a **** at the same time Smile
