Internet Provider

Hey guys do you have any ideas to help me as im moving to a flat but cant find a good internet provider, BT only lets me have about 5MB speed. Is that enough for online gaming not to lag?

I had Sky which used the BT copper phone lines and it was crap. I'm now on Virgin Media 20mb which used the Fiber Optics and never had a problem. If you need to get it cheap then BT or Sky will have to be the way to go but if you can get Virgin up there try and get at least their 10mb line

That will be the Download speed, which will be fine.

Perhaps more importantly what is the upload speed? As if that is crap you will kill people, like race-leg-end did last night lol.

I shouldn't have opened my big mouth, about 10 mins after I said I have had no problems my Virgin Media line died last night and its only been fixed this morning

upload speed seems kinda slow to me but im no expert. heres mine for comparison

well im on talk talk for £6.99 a month, but i can upgrade to £14.99 but dont think it ll change much...

I'm with Talk Talk and I think most people know the problems I've been having.
To be honest it's mainly because their helpdesks aren't that great and it takes an age to get through to anyone who can actually test the lines.

The actual service (when it works) is pretty damn good. Virgin isn't an option down here yet sadly. The closest it gets is Exeter and I'm not moving just for better broadband.

Isn't it your ping which dictates the level of lag you get?

The ping is the speed at which data transfers back and forth between the host and the slave.

And that is at £15 a month.

Im on the equivalent of Vodaphone. paying about the same or slightly more than brit, not sure about exchange rates and such

You'll be very lucky to get a good upload speed in the UK. Your pings are pretty bad, mine us usually in around 10ms.

mines not that great anymore...lol it used to be awesome, but it might be because my comp is a laptop.

Virgin in Chiswick, London. The Ping is fast ;O)

Cant wait till december, then I can receive BT Infinity (40Mb download 10Mb upload).

My laptop isn't what it used to be either but it gets the job done. Never had any problems with my ISP, only with my router and I caused that myself.
