TVR Cerbera Speed 12 Empty TVR Cerbera Speed 12

Post by Crisis Nine Sat 10 Jul 2010 - 12:42

In 1997 the most mental road car ever designed came to life. So mental infact that it could never be officially power recorded as the car was so powerful it shattered the input shaft of the dyno being used to test its peak power. So bonkers that the owner of TVR Peter Wheeler, took one of the prototypes home and concluded that the car was just too ridiculous to go into full production. The car was too powerful and was unusable on the road. As such the entire project was cancelled and millions of pounds worth of deposits were returned to potential buyers, and the Speed 12 was dead.

Until 2003. TVR decided to build one road car using the remaining bits from the prototype models and the race car versions and sell it to a TVR enthusiast. Not an easy feat mind, if you wanted to buy it you had to spend a day with Peter Wheeler to find out if you were worthy of owning what would be and still remains the only existing TVR Speed 12 road car ever. Since all the original bodywork had been destroyed this road car would come with a GT1 shell which gave it the added bonus of much increased downforce to handle its 880BHP power. The deal was done and the only Speed 12 road car ever produced was sold.

In 2005 the owner let car magazine EVO review the beast, and the magazine promptly gave it a rating of 11.5 / 10. Still the only car to receive such a score from that magazine to this day.

Here is some footage of the car on the Silverstone South circuit. The noise of this thing is amazing and the acceleration is just insane. You can tell how much power it generates as the guy holding the camera is fighting the whole time on the second lap just to keep the camera up and pointing over the dash. What an amazing car.

One of my friends raced this car in the British GT championship. Michael Caine. I watched him a few times. The best was at Oulton Park, when a tropical downpour flooded the track and everyone crashed except the Speed 12. He was up against the Saleen S7's.
Watch the marshall! Lucky boy.

I was standing 20 yards from the crash. Awesome.

OMFG! I emailed the sales company dealing with this car, saying I knew it was cheeky but could I possibly come and see the car, take a few pictures, maybe have a cheeky sit in it. They only ruddy bloody went and said yes! Totally excited man, I get to go and sit in the one and only TVR Cerbera Speed 12 road car ever sold.

It's currently in Blackpool having the head gasket replaced but once it comes back to the showroom they'll email me and arrange for me to come and see it!

I'm green with envy mate.

When you go try to get some sneaky photo's of CCTV camera locations, the exits, where they keep the keys, anything that might be handy.
