Where Should Toyota's Motorsport Future be?
POLL: Where Should Toyota's Motorsport Future Be?
After reading this article on TouringcarTimes.com
http://www.touringcartimes.com/article.php?id=5179
I was woundering where people wanted to see Toyota's Motorsport Future in Europe.
With 2011's WRC Regulations bringing low cost motorsports from a 1.6 Turbo engine and a S2000 based Rallycar chassis, This coupled with Toyota's Strong Rally Heritage could be a very strong option for Toyota. (And in my personal opinion a great chance to add some much needed street cred to the Prius! (I reckon its about the right size, maybe slightly too big)
On the other hand there is the WTCC with their 2011 regulations using the same 1.6 Turbo engine as the new WRC Regulations, however this time with the Toyota Avensis as the base. Yet another chance to gain some street cred for an underloved model, however without the strong heritage.
There is still a chance that due to the lower running costs of both of these series that Toyota could Enter them both, but for now lets concentrate on which one WE would like to see Toyota Enter.

I would much rather see them concerntrate on Super GT, they only field 2 cars in GT300. Or even a return to F1.
I never want to see a Prius racing, Motorsport will die the day it happens...infact I will too.

Re: POLL: Where Should Toyota's Motorsport Future Be?
Well they're going to be in the LMS soon and they could race in both wrc and wtcc as it's pretty much and they could use the same car so i say both

Re: POLL: Where Should Toyota's Motorsport Future Be?
I would prefer to see Toyota in Touring Car racing, also I think they can go racing in the British and FIA GT3.

if anything they need to bring back the prototypes, or start building decent sports cars for gt 1 2 or 3 too bad they delayed the FT-86, that would've made an excellent gt car
First thing first is to stop making crappy eco cars for hipsters
Re: POLL: Where Should Toyota's Motorsport Future Be?
wow this has gone down like a soggy fart! lol
Well i just know these are the two options which Toyota are said to be evaluating for its European motorsports division.
Personally my vote goes towards WRC,
There are (or atleast should be) more manufacturers for Toyota to compete against than in WTCC.
(WRC's got Citroen, Ford, Mini and Potentially Skoda, Proton, Fiat and Peugeot vs WTCC's BMW, Seat and Lada)
(plus i wanna see a wide arched, turbo charged, 4WD Toyota Prius! Come on Toyota! Make it happen! lol)

Re: POLL: Where Should Toyota's Motorsport Future Be?
i couldnt disagree more louis (whoses not drunk anymore ) i think with the new rules and mini already saying they are joining the WRC.Hopefully this will encourage more into the championship.I want to see more than just the C4 and Focus. The new DS3 looks amazing.Toyota should try the Auris as its not a bad looking car and it runs a similar chassis to the older corolla which has a S2000 verison.
This is maybe like formula 1 with Loeb being Michael Schumacher and look at F1 now!!! fingers crossed with the new rules and the young drivers coming into the sport in 2years times it will be doing aswell as F1 now.
And slider keep the Prius 4wd to your dreams please.I agree with slim

Re: POLL: Where Should Toyota's Motorsport Future Be?
Hey guys, just saw this and thought id pretty much settle this. And yes i do keep looking on the forums from time to time.
Definately purely sports cars for Toyota. Lemans series this year, possible 24 entry, definately next years 24. I am totally unaware of any talks about WRC or Touring cars, as the order book for 2011 transmission systems has already been closed. I shouldnt imagine a 2011 entry, however i suppose its possible for a 2012 enrty, depending on the outcome of the sportscar programe. But i cant definately confirm that the sportscar programe is going ahead.

It is scheduled to be a 2012 entry if anything for either championship mate.
And no GaryP I have dreams of many crazy Prius based things..... they MUST make it into reality!!!! lol

the Prius production plant(s) could seize to work for all i care. ive seen nothing but a**h***s driving those things, and think they own the g.d. road. nearly lost my left front of my STi the other week when this one prius owner decided not to wait til i have passed the intersection i was approaching.

Can't help but remember the South Park episode where the plot was pretty much just that.DMR SWITCH wrote:ive seen nothing but a**h***s driving those things, and think they own the g.d. road.

Re: POLL: Where Should Toyota's Motorsport Future Be?
Hybrid systems really don't have much use in modern rallying. In Rally Raid, yes, in sportscars, yes. But modern rallying... no.
A Yaris with long bumpers (ala 206) would do very well.

Re: POLL: Where Should Toyota's Motorsport Future Be?
Oh god no i didnt want it to be a hybrid (the batteies would have to come out of the floor for the 4wd anyways)
A Yaris or Auris are probably what they would use if it came to it.

Re: POLL: Where Should Toyota's Motorsport Future Be?
the Auris looks like the better choice, apperance wise. the rear of the Yaris drops more dramatically than the Auris' does i think. and most of the 'hatch'es used in wrc have that same look thats found on the Auris.
