Well that's the romance lost out of that lol!

I share a passion of all things spaceflight. I came across this which was kinda cool, Discovery's last launch from a slightly different perspective. It gives you an idea of the scale of it all.

This only covers the first 2 minutes of the launch, it keeps going for another 6 or so!



Incidentally the tracking showed it coming over southern england immediately after launch, but unfortunately it was cloudy. Florida to UK in less than 20 minutes, and that was from a standing start! Absolutely incredible.

Oh yeah, and it has to. Not enough horizontal speed and you go sub-orbital... Like Richard Branson's ''more important than Apollo 11'' spacecraft...

What a complete idiot he is.. Don't get me started on sub-orbital tourist flights.. grrr..

Yup, just highlighting the comparison to terrestrial travel to show the awesomeness of it all. The fact it gets up to that speed in just 8 minutes give or take makes it all the more amazing.

What I find even more intriguing is everything outside our solar system.

Four Minutes from De-Orbit Burn, landing should happen at 11:57 ET.

de-orbit burn is completed, Discovery is now on her way home.

Upon Discovery's wheel stop, her final resting position will be marked on the runway, and a permanent marker will be put on the runway.

Discovery will be landing at the SLF at Kennedy Space Centre.

Discovery now pitching over so that its heat shield is facing the Earth.

Entry Interface in a couple of minutes, this is when Discovery begins to enter the Earths atmosphere.

400,000 ft, Discovery now entering the atmosphere at Mach 25.

All of the kinetic energy gained at Launch (17,000 mph worth of energy) is now being scrubbed off as heat and sound.

The Law of Conservation of Energy at its finest here!

Over the Gulf of Mexico now, heading towards the West Coast of Flordia. Merrit Island tracking station at KSC has picked up Discovery.

just over 10 minutes till touchdown.
