Turning Glasgow into Downtown Philly

We have a few members of the forum from the East coast of the USA, so I thought i'd share a few photo's of what they are doing to Glasgow's City Centre. They are filming World War Z, which is set in Philladelphia. So our ''toon'' is now filled with Ford Crown Vic's and American style road signs. Quite surreal...

They're making a World War Z movie?

This is relevant to my interests.

Why wouldn't they just shoot that somewhere in the US where all of that can be found already setup in the real world?

I believe the new Batman is filming in the real Philadelphia.

And movies have always done stuff like this. Most movies that take place in New York are actually shot in Toronto.

I was looking at pics last night of it. It's pretty cool, I guess it must be cheaper to ship everything over to Scotland and turn it inot an American city rather than actually filming in the US.

Plus people over here tend to be a bit more angry about doing stuff on their property even if you have permission.

Plus this particular area of Glasgow, George Square, is closed off a number of times every year.

Glasgow is probably just happy to get some money.

Glasgow City Council has a bit of a reputation for wanting as much money for themselves as possible... This is perfect.

Plus the publicity and tourism it will create. Turning the place into a movie set is good enough, but having the Brangelina road show roll into town is the icing on the cake for them.

Admitedly, if I had been home I would have totally been though there to try see the city turned American.

I saw loads of scaffolding and barriers the other day, but I have not seen the place all done up like Philly.

All I know is, Glasgow is going to be having some classic Crown Vic car chases going on.
