2012 FIA World Touring Car Championship
Monza was this weekend, so here are the races! The drivers were properly bump drafting down the straights, it's almost like plate racing for Europeans! I also absolutely love the on-board views, it's back to the classic mid-cockpit view that we used to get in the BTCC.

Can some one explain the race format for WTCC? Race 1 is only 10 laps long?

10 laps is a 50km race around Monza, and the WTCC have twin 50km races.

Re: 2012 FIA World Touring Car Championship
Mandatory sponsor and event decals like what V8 Supercars have?
It's still odd though, you;d expect them to have the numbers in the rear-side windows.

Re: 2012 FIA World Touring Car Championship
They put them down the front underneath the mirrors now no?
Re: 2012 FIA World Touring Car Championship
Only watched the first half of race 1 so far, but I already fear an Yvan Muller shoe-in for the title. I really can't see any car and driver combination capable of taking the fight to him, not even from Huff.
Still, I'm quite keen on the WTCC this year. Coule be good with the mix of cars, and with the JAS Civic and Lada still to come this year. Annoyed they canned Donny though, I could have made it to that one!

Re: 2012 FIA World Touring Car Championship
Have touring car races always been that short? It seems weird to me that they are, but I guess I'm just not used to it since the only racing I've ever watched has been F1, sports cars, or Indy/NASCAR.
Also, why is that Cruze not in Forza?

But the short races are short because they are made for TV, it may not look it. The WTCC is essentially a hark back to the days of the British Touring Car Championship between 1995 and 2000, it may not look it either, however a couple of years ago in the WTCC the entry list almost reads like a BTCC entry list from ten years previously.

The BTCC used the two race format til 2003, then it adopted S2000 in 2004 along with the three race format. But unlike the WTCC races, BTCC had a mandatory pit stop for one or both of the races, depending on what year you are watching.
Of course, back around 20 years ago, the then ETCC (not a direct descendant of the ETCC from which the current WTCC grew out of, as that was the Italian STC) had very long races, often with driver changes. Races like the 24 Hours of Spa and the 1000km of Silverstone (now both GT and Sportscar races respectively) were part of the ETCC season. In 1987 when the ETCC briefly became the WTCC, the series also took in the 1000km race at Bathurst.
One of the reasons that V8 Supercar races are so long is because they still retain the sort of format that touring car racing had back in those days.

Re: 2012 FIA World Touring Car Championship
Did anybody watch the Auto GP race today?
One of the best single seater battles I've seen in a while between Campana and Quaife-Hobbs for the lead in the closing laps.
