" If a driver makes an calculation error and has not pitted by the time the 18 minutes has elapsed, they MUST pit next time they get to pit entry. "

So, in effect you must pit between 8 minutes and 18 minutes otherwise you will be penalised.

This actually made me laugh out loud.

Its a rule change. After 2 people made a mistake at Silverstone I thought that would be it, but Hockenheim nearly half the field pitted after 18 minutes had elapsed

Have people been penalised then?

No as they followed the old rule as it was writen.

I think its right that drivers should get penalties for pitting after 18mins.

It's been posted there which is fine and I'm sure Simon will also update the rules when he gets a chance.

My point wasn't meant to read like I was picking at the rule being updated, but the fact that the rule was already there and if anyone was found to have not pitted within that time they should be penalised.

For all we know I could have pitted on the last lap and done a Schumi at Silverstone '98 and had a free 10s advantage on everyone when I cross the line in the pits.

The rule was worded so that when clock turn 18 and you still had not pitted, you must pit when you next pass the pit enterence. Everyone complied with this there for no rules were broken.

How ever this was not the intended use for the rule but more as a fail safe if someone forgot. People read this differently and used it according.

No one has broken any rules and no1 will have penalties.

You have yet to explain why people should get a penalty when they followed the rule as it was written? Also can you tell about me anyone that your believe should receive a penalty?

At Silverstone, 2 people pitted after 18 minuets but on the lap as it turned 18 minuets, so no rule breakage. Then at Hockenheim quiet a few drivers did the same, again breaking no rules but taking advantage of the wording, hence the change......I don't see what you issue is here?

Oh man, I think THAT might be a bit harsh. 15-second penalty would have been my verdict, if it was up to me.
