Carroll Shelby Memorial Series Empty Carroll Shelby Memorial Series

Post by Standaman94 Tue 15 May 2012 - 9:10

Carroll Shelby - January 11 1923–May 10 2012

I've seen a few of these float around, but none have truly praised his success. I'm hoping to cover all his achievements here, so you may be a little surprised by the car list.

General TORA rules, with a standing start, no mandatory pitstop.
No conversions of any kind - cars must have their original drive-type, aspiration and engine.
STM is forced off.

Cars:
  • 1968 Shelby GT-500KR
  • 1969 Shelby GT500 428CJ
  • 1999 Shelby Series 1
  • 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C
  • 1965 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe

  • 2005 Ford Mustang GT
  • 2007 Ford Shelby GT500
  • 2010 Ford Shelby GT500
  • 1966 Ford GT40 MkII
  • 2005 Ford GT

  • 1986 Dodge Shelby Omni GLHS
  • 1999 Dodge Viper GTS ACR
  • 2003 Dodge Viper SRT-10

Calender:
  • Le Mans Old Mulsanne - TBC
  • Nurburgring Nordschleife - TBC

I'm thinking of doing a either a multiclass affair, or to keep the faster cars for Le Mans and the slower ones for the 'Ring.

Paints/Liveries are welcome, but try to keep them to famous race cars if so. Otherwise, try to keep it stock-looking. After all, we're here to celebrate Shelby, not your painting skills.

PS - If I've missed anything, just say! Very Happy

Why do we have cars that don't have the shelby name on them?

Those cars Adrian, had Shelby working on them in the 'creation' process. I believe the '05 Mustang's design was purely Shelby's idea to go retro. And u saw how chevy and dodge followed suit with the camaro and challenger.
And the ford GT's are Shelby's own creation with Ford. If memory serves, shelby built the original GT40 to compete against Ferrari after they denied him something. What, I don't remember.

As for the races, perhaps we can do like an accelerated pace lap.

Ford wanted to buy Ferrari, but Ferrari declined and so Ford wanted to beat them in Le Mans. And when I say "Ford" and "Ferrari", I mean "Henry Ford" and "Enzo Ferrari".

Also, Shelby helped to make the Viper.

How do people feel about next Wednesday?

I like the idea of the Pace Lap, but I'm not sure if it'll hold much interest. I think more of a "Track Day" type of thing is appropriate; get your ride, take it for a spin for 20 mins or so. Otherwise, we could just have a full-on race anyway.

The faster cars will go around Le Mans, and the Slower ones around the 'Ring, and both should be about 20-30 mins. Hopefully I'll try and get them in one night, back-to-back.

thats not a bad idea at all. 20-30 minute session @ both the Old Mulsanne, and the Nordschliefe. Though i think every car could race on both tracks. regardless if they've ever stepped foot there or not. Smile a Shelby Omni @ LeMans, i say Yes please. Smile it may seem outa place, but so what! its a Shelby

Ok, it might have to be a multiclass affair because I'm not sure on the Omni and GT500 reaching A-class Razz
